“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

Mr. Premier, ‘we are all in this together’ was fine to begin with, but we need actions going forward, not catch phrases and empty promises

BC’s Conservatives are concerned that another summer means more sleepless nights for tourism companies, those who rely on employment from the industry, and communities that have thrived on the annual visits of tourists in the past. The leader of the Conservatives in BC, Trevor Bolin, observed, “Last summer and into fall, I decided to be a tourist in my own province exploring the far northern part of the province and the Yukon with my family.     We travelled the world-famous Alaska Highway and visited communities that at one time were bustling with tourists, and which instead, for the most part, had empty campgrounds and restaurants. Sadly, in each town we also found vacant tourism attractions.”   Bolin continued, “On National Tourism Week, we have a message for Premier John Horgan, and his government. Our province not only deserves, but desperately needs, a well laid-out plan moving forward to get this province back in the black.  I am gravely concer...

After a year of following safety protocols, B.C.’s workforce still only getting promises about paid time off to recover from the COVID virus

Yesterday, on social media, NDP government Labour Minister Harry Bains stated, “Keeping workers safe, while reducing risks to businesses, is our priority.”   Meanwhile in the legislature, Premier Horgan, after a full year of promising to implement sick pay for workers with COVID-19 or those having to self-isolate due to possible infections, once again pledged that it will be “happening in the days ahead.”   “While B.C.’s Conservatives welcome the initiative towards providing time off for workers to receive their COVID vaccine, let’s be clear about one thing,” stated party leader Trevor Bolin this morning. “The NDP are offering more incentives for vaccinations than they are for those, who after a year of following guidelines and safety protocols, still can’t get paid time off to recover if they become infected with the virus -- before they’ve had a chance to receive their vaccine.”   Speaking from his home in Fort St. John, the Conservative leader continued, “I...

Budget 2021 from Finance Minister Selina Robinson took a page from previous NDP budgets; spend on a few favorites while ignoring the rest

The following is a response from the leader of BC’s Conservatives, Trevor Bolin, to Budget 2021.   Yesterday, the people of British Columbia were hoping to hear a real plan to pull our province out of the malaise we’ve been in for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, Budget 2021, from Finance Minister Selina Robinson, did little more than promise continued spending without setting any benchmarks to be met over the next 12 months.    The budget talked about job creation for youth, although it’s unclear whether the jobs to be created were 3,000 or 5,000 positions. What about job sustainability for those affected by mills that have closed and remained closed?     The budget spoke of 3.5 billion dollars in extra infrastructure spending, but much of that will be going to Premier John Horgan’s favoured unions through the so-called Community Benefits Agreements. What about the remaining tens of thousands looking for those same ki...

TREVOR BOLIN -- The lack of affordable housing has more to do with red tape from BC Housing, and the provincial government in general

Please note the following is a media release from the Conservative Party of BC, which was sent out yesterday (April 15th) This morning in the BC Legislature Housing Minister Selina Robinson rose to say, “... no one could have predicted this pandemic and the impact that it would have on our lives and on our economy. I have to say that low interest rates that were intended to bolster the economy through the shock have led to big price increases, certainly for first-time homebuyers, making it very difficult to get into the market .” This, while on multiple occasions members of the BC Liberals, along with the Minister Responsible for Housing, David Eby, spared about what was and wasn’t being built, and how much of it was affordable or not, along with who was responsible for rising housing costs. “Has anyone wondered why we need two members of Premier Horgan’s government – David Eby and Selina Robinson -- to be responsible for two separate Ministries related to housing?”, asked...
