“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

FELDSTED -- This government has replaced safety and security with anxiety, fear and uncertainty

COMMENTARY REFERENCE   To build back better, we must reinvent capitalism ... The pandemic has brought into focus many of the vulnerabilities in our systems and institutions.  But it also offers us a chance to shape a more resilient and sustainable world. Here's how businesses and policy-makers can start building the green and inclusive future we need ..... CLICK HERE to read the full story   We are to believe that by destroying capitalism that we can rebuild a more robust capitalism? Let's have these chaps share a little of whatever they are imbibing. First, they convince our governments that the only way to combat a virus epidemic is to quarantine the entire population for an extended period. Most of the nation shut down with devastating effects on our economy, personal health and well-being. Efforts to provide income replacement for people forced out of their livelihoods have been deliberately overly complicated, piecemeal and unfocused. Financial ...

PECKFORD – It is through their own Black Lives Matter colour lens, that others ‘will be seen’, it seems

What does Black Lives Matter Stand for? It’s confusing to me. I was taught by a great high school teacher to always seek the facts, go to the source if possible. That teacher was always insistent that one clearly define what one means in our discourse So that is what I am doing now. In this present context, this is highly important in that some of what is being said will profoundly change the nature of our society. Examining the Black Lives Matter website one can get some sense of what this loose organization is about. In the first instance it is to promote the black people, as indicated in the section on ‘What We Believe’ : “We are unapologetically Black in our positioning. In affirming that Black Lives Matter, we need not qualify our position. To love and desire freedom and justice for ourselves is a prerequisite for wanting the same for others. We see ourselves as part of the global Black family, and we are aware of the different ways we are impacted or privileged as ...

An announcement and media availability will follow NOW, as many if not all will recall, Montreal was the scene yesterday of an act of wanton anarchy by a bunch of hoodlums who vandalized and destroyed the statue of Canada’s first Prime Minister ... Sir John A. Macdonald. Since that event occurred, there has not be ONE SINGLE WORD from our Prime Minister decrying this destruction. On the other hand, Official Opposition leader Erin O’Toole stated: Canada wouldn't exist without Sir...

FELDSTED -- The notion that governance is too complicated for us to understand is an excellent reason to select different people at the first opportunity

Commons law clerk says government went too far in redacting WE Charity documents . Public servants pre-redacted documents; top Tory says Trudeau is engaged in a 'cover up' (John Paul Tasker ~~ CBC News ~~ Aug 27, 2020) The House of Commons law clerk says public servants went too far in redacting the WE Charity documents released to MPs last week — and warns the cuts may have violated a production order from the finance committee to hand over all internal correspondence related to the summer student grants program. The government released thousands of pages of documents related to the WE matter, as the committee requested last month. But rather than have the independent law clerk redact certain information, such as cabinet confidences and personal information, the various departments responsible for this aborted program did the blackouts themselves — an apparent contravention of the committee's request. The end result was hundreds of blank pages and blacked-out cont...
