Columbia River - Revelstoke MLA Doug Clovechok After almost three years in office, Premier John Horgan finally took his first tour to a region that has seen a lot of hardship over the past year. From months of dwindling job numbers, countless setbacks for a forestry sector in crisis, to a sham-filled caribou consultation; northern B.C. residents had hoped to hear some good news from their Premier. However, not only did relief not materialize during his tour, John Horgan doubled down on his disconnect through missed opportunities and several tone-deaf comments. At a round-table meeting of northern mayors, the Premier remarked that “ quite frankly we don’t hear from [Opposition MLAs] about the positive initiatives that are happening in the community .” This assertion is just flat-out false — I’d instead argue that perhaps the Premier has just failed to listen to the concerns of British Columbians outside of NDP held ridings . South East BC and South West Alberta both under severe weather warnings for travellers

HERE IN BC ... a high risk of avalanche has closed the Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden , which will be closed with no detour until approximately 8 o'clock this evening. A severe winter storm across much of the southern Interior has brought more than 40 centimetres of snowfall to the region, with 20 to 30 more centimetres expected throughout the day, and as much as 50 centimetres forecast for Rogers Pass. Avalanche control work is taking place in four different locations along this section by ministry staff to ensure people's safety once the highway is reopened. The ministry is co-coordinating this work with federal government staff who are undertaking avalanche control work in Glacier National Park to ensure road closure times are minimized. Highway 1 is also currently closed in both directions at Kicking Horse Canyon east of Golden due to avalanche control, and the road will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. ...
