“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

FELDSTED -- Our response must be a refusal to re-elect those elected drones who are driven by unelected political party officials and strategists

DNR ( D o N ot R e-elect ) is an election strategy aimed at taking the election campaign narrative and approach away from political parties and substituting our own. We get lost trying to figure out who we should cast our vote for.  We do not trust any party to govern responsibly. No political party has distinguished itself over the last two decades, and we have suffered through seven federal elections -- starting in 2000: 37th General Election, November 27, 2000 38th General Election, June 28, 2004 39th General Election, January 23, 2006 40th General Election, October 14, 2008 41st General Election, May 2, 2011 42nd General Election, October 19, 2015 43rd General Election, October 21, 2019 We are weary of weeks of political party’s slagging and sloganing, playing silly political games to score points on social media sites, dozens of insincere promises and no change in governance. We are in for another election within the next two to eight months. Our political structur...

FELDSTED -- The notion that governance is too complicated for us to understand is an excellent reason to select different people at the first opportunity

Commons law clerk says government went too far in redacting WE Charity documents . Public servants pre-redacted documents; top Tory says Trudeau is engaged in a 'cover up' (John Paul Tasker ~~ CBC News ~~ Aug 27, 2020) The House of Commons law clerk says public servants went too far in redacting the WE Charity documents released to MPs last week — and warns the cuts may have violated a production order from the finance committee to hand over all internal correspondence related to the summer student grants program. The government released thousands of pages of documents related to the WE matter, as the committee requested last month. But rather than have the independent law clerk redact certain information, such as cabinet confidences and personal information, the various departments responsible for this aborted program did the blackouts themselves — an apparent contravention of the committee's request. The end result was hundreds of blank pages and blacked-out cont...

From an armchair discussion, to a roundtable ... our Prime Minister certainly leads an exiting life

THIS JUST IN ... ( mix in the sounds and effects of clattering typewriters ) Tomorrow morning at 9:45am, according to the Prime Ministers Office, Justin Trudeau will participate in an armchair discussion with representatives of SheEO ventures.  Also attending this armchair discussion will be the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade Mary Ng. I’m guess that an armchair discussion is pretty loose -- kind of like sitting around the kitchen table, having a few beers, and sorting out the ills of the world. This event will be Open Coverage, rather than just for those designed as “Accredited” Here’s what I truly found interesting though. The armchair discussion, as I’ll remind you, gets underway at 9:45am.   So what time is the media supposed to arrive?   According to the Notes for The Media , they must arrive no later than 8:15am. That’s ONE HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES before the event takes pl...
