“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

AARON GUNN: Four tankers filled to the brim with American oil depart Alaska EVERY DAY heading along the very waters Canada’s own tankers will soon be banned

The assault on Canada’s Energy Industry just keeps getting worse.  This time it’s Bill C-48, the latest masterstroke from the Trudeau government, which effectively kills any new pipelines by banning tanker traffic off BC’s North coast.  I honestly don’t know where to begin – but let’s start with the colossal hypocrisy . Why is it that 283 million tons of foreign oil are allowed to transit Canada’s East coast, including down the St. Lawrence river in Quebec, and yet on BC’s North Coast, it will soon be banned?  And it’s not just hypocritical. It’s also just plain stupid.  There is no scientific evidence whatsoever to suggest tanker traffic in Northern B.C. presents a greater risk to the environment than anywhere else – in fact the exact opposite is true.  And here’s the kicker. There already are tankers off BC’s coast . Four tankers, each filled to the brim with American oil, depart Alaska EVERY DAY heading South alongside the very waters where Canada’s

ADAM OLSEN: I believe the government has an incredible opportunity to help create active partnerships between the agricultural producers in the province and our food banks

According to  Food Banks BC , 80,000 British Columbians use a food bank each month. Yet, as we learned from " The Avoidable Crisis of Food Waste " a report by Second Harvest released earlier this year, Canadians waste an unbelievable amount of food. " The research estimates that the total avoidable and unavoidable food loss and waste occurring annually along the Canadian food value chain equates to 35.5 million metric tonnes, of which 11.2 million metric tonnes (32%) is avoidable food loss and waste -- the equivalent of the weight of almost 95 CN Towers." "Based on the consumer value of food, the value of avoidable food loss and waste equates to $49.5 billion, representing 51.8 percent of the money Canadians spent on food purchased from retail stores in Canada in 2016. ($49.5 billion equates to 3% of Canada’s 2016 GDP and would feed every person living in Canada for almost 5 months. )" Waste less food In a recent phone call

Hopefully residents of the city will be more inclined to see the value of a performing arts centre, much as they finally did when it came to building the coliseum at Riverside Park

Proposed Kamloops Performing Arts Centre According the BC government, more people will have the opportunity to enjoy B.C.’s community festivals and visual artists, thanks to the latest BC Arts Council grants, just recently announced . “ Arts and culture connect, challenge and inspire us. They make our communities vibrant and resilient, creating great places to live and raise families ,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. “ Through our increased investment in the BC Arts Council, we are working to enrich our neighbourhoods, improve peoples’ lives and attract even more visitors to B.C .” More than $1.5 million in provincial funding will be distributed through 191 grants in the latest round of funding administered by the BC Arts Council. This includes 102 grants to support community festivals (up from 77 last year). As well, there was an increase in grants to individual artists through the Visual Arts Awards program. JOHN TWIGG: Notre Dame and Sri Lanka offer new insights into mankind’s precarious prophesied future

Disclosure: The writer is a former activist for the BC Conservative Party who left the party shortly before the previous provincial election to run for the B.C. First Party in North Island but who has since rejoined BCCP as a somewhat dissident member. The BCCP was not asked to approve this commentary. After much thought, and knowing many people of various religious faiths are, and will always be, part of every political party, I have decided to run this commentary. PLEASE NOTE: The following is the comments and beliefs of the author, and do not necessarily reflect those of the writer providing material to this blog-site PART #1 ... Here is the real reason for the attack on this idea of a “clash of civilizations The recent sensational burning of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on April 15 and then the mass murders of more than 250 Christian church-goers and various Western people in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday April 21, 2019 can now be seen as two more major
