Questions are being raised inside a BC First Nation after $10,000 was offered to each member ahead of a crucial vote on the future of a major gold mine. Dormant since it was closed in 2008, the Eskay Creek gold mine sits in Tahltan Nation territory 83 kilometres northwest of Stewart in a mineral-rich region known as “the golden triangle.” Skeena Resources Ltd. bought the site from Barrick Gold [now Barrick Mining Corp. in 2017 and since then has moved to re-start operations in a project that could generate more than $14 billion in GDP in one of the highest-grade gold mines in the world.
