  The man hired to turn around the flagging fortunes of Suncor Energy Inc. said Tuesday he believes the company has been too focused in recent years on the energy transition and must get back to an oil-centred business strategy.   CEO Rich Kruger, who took the reins at the Calgary-based energy giant this spring, told analysts on a conference call that the company’s board of directors agrees with him that a “revised direction and tone” at the company is necessary.   He said he believes Suncor must not neglect “the business drivers of today” in favour of future-focused, clean and low-carbon energy pursuits.   “We have a bit of a disproportionate emphasis on the longer-term energy transition,” Kruger said, adding that while lower emissions energy is important, it is not what is going to make money for shareholders today ... National Geographic recently published a piece called “This is the world’s most destructive oil operation – and it’s growing.” Its target? The oil sands. It had errors and of course failed to mention the fact that Canadian industry is a global leader when it comes to environmental responsibility, from reclamation to developing new technologies to reducing emissions, and working in partnership with Indigenous communities. January 29 th , 2018 Suncor announced that the Fort Hills project was continuing its steady ramp up of production following the safe start-up of secondary extraction two days earlier Fort Hills, which is located approximately 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, saw an average of 7,900 people at peak construction. Now in operation, Fort Hills employs approximately 1,400 direct employees, with the vast majority have been hired from Alberta.   Foothills cogeneration facility has a total capacity of 180 megawatts, and generates electricity from what would otherwise be waste heat “… you don’t need to choose between the environment and the economy.
