“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

Josh Dehaas: The police can't just declare an overpass a Charter-free zone (The Line)

I realize it’s easier to armchair quarterback than to police protests. If police arrest protesters causing minor disruptions, they risk breaching the Charter rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. If they don’t arrest protesters who are clearly breaking laws, they encourage more disorder. But, as a former journalist who now works for a charity defending constitutional rights, it’s my job to critique the police, and I’m frustrated to see them continue to make the same mistake. Police tend to underreact to illegality at protests initially. Then, when the public gets frustrated with the lack of enforcement, they overreact, which compromises constitutional rights ... FORSETH: #NotMyCanada

I agree with Brain Lilley --- the people in this video have indeed lost their minds   I’ll go even farther ... racist, lowlife, crude degenerates are running amok in public with what seems like impunity --- what the hell is wrong people.   And yet when I, and others call this kind of behavior out, and say that it is crass and should not be allowed, unbelievably there are those who will disagree. On posts which I, and others, have made these have been just a small sample of the responses which have been made, and believe me this are the mild ones: I disagree. This prime minister (Justin Trudeau) has belittled, denigrated & demonized Canadians. Now the shoe is on the other foot. This is how we PREVENT fascism, which has become the norm, under this regime. I do agree that it's ugly, but Trudildeau's constant harping about the "right wing" makes it necessary. Give it a rest, you're a total Trudeau lapdog & Canadians don't need permission to ...

CHAD NORMAN DAY -- I pray more indigenous people focus on contributing positively to rebuilding and strengthening their ancestral communities and nations out of love and respect for those that came before us

USED WITH PERMISSION of the author, Chad Norman Day " Don't give up what you want most, for what you want right now. ” Following several generations of colonization, injustice, racism, and exploitation of our children, lands and resources, many indigenous individuals in Canada and their advocates are currently more concerned with " getting even " rather than empowering their people through reconciliation. It’s unfortunate, but it’s also understandable. Most indigenous people, rooted in their homelands, want to see their communities and nations become prosperous and independent, but this may take decades or generations for those nations with communities and/or leaders who are overwhelmed with anger, frustration and pain. This is why I’ve always said that reconciliation starts with ourselves first.  We need to heal and become healthy individuals before we can reconcile and unite our communities or nations in a fashion that will ...

On National Flag of Canada Day, all I see is our rich history and a promise of a bright future, created by the blood and sweat of those who came before us, being torn down and destroyed

Image posted on Twitter by Kamloops - Thompson - Cariboo Conservative MP Cathy McLeod Earlier today, Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on National Flag of Canada Day: “ 55 years ago today, the Canadian flag was flown for the first time in our communities across Canada, on Parliament Hill, and at diplomatic missions around the world. Today, on National Flag of Canada Day, we celebrate both the anniversary of the Maple Leaf and the story it tells of our wonderful country” . Trudeau then continued, “ In times of uncertainty, the flag reaffirms that the common values that unite us – openness, generosity, peace, and freedom – are stronger than our differences ”. In times of uncertainty , was certainly an excellent choice of words, as all around us we see signs of anarchism as protesters blockade people from going about their everyday lives, and the economy of Canada slowly grinds to a halt. CBC News, in a story this ...

KING – You made a choice to break the law and, as such, you are eligible for all the consequences that breaking the law entails

There seems to be a lot of confusion online about whether recent protests are illegal or legal.  Our system allows, nay, encourages protest.  But that doesn't mean that all protest is legal. Should you choose to break the law while protesting you have broken the law.  Let’s use an exaggeration to make my point. Were I to hit a gentleman over the head with a ball peen hammer, and claim it is a protected form of protest, the police and the courts would make short work of my claims; I would go to prison. There are two clear forms of protest: 1) uncivil obedience … and … 2) civil disobedience In the former you follow the laws. You stay on public lands not harming others and make you case heard. That is a legal protest fully protected under our laws Civil disobedience, meanwhile, is the deliberate choice to break the law, on the understanding that it will amplify your protest. It amplifies your protest becau...
