“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

EDITORIAL: We don’t have to quit the UN to call it out (Toronto Sun)

Withdrawing from the United Nations, as a petition created by Doug Porter of Burnaby, B.C. and publicized by Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis calls for, is a step too far. But it is time to stop worshiping at the very tainted shrine that is the modern-day UN ... CLICK HERE for the full story

JOHN TWIGG – That's a long way from a nine-year-old boy hearing a bridge collapse 62 years ago ... but the events ARE connected

Yesterday (June 17) was the 62nd anniversary of the collapse of the then-under-construction Second Narrows bridge in Vancouver in 1958 , which killed 18 Ironworkers (a 19th victim was a diver seeking to recover bodies afterwards) and was an event I heard while playing outside my home in West Vancouver many miles away; I was only nine years old at the time and it was my first exposure to human-caused mass disasters but unfortunately it was not the last.   Eventually we learned the bridge collapse happened because a design engineer had underestimated the load-bearing capacity of a steel spar from which a crane was placing beams to connect the north and south sides of the major construction project, which was eventually completed and is now called the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge .   Since then I have become somewhat inured to such mass disasters, as have many people nowadays, because there seem to have been so many of them, notably the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers, li...

FELDSTED -- 39 true democracies, in the UN, are heavily outnumbered by third world nations seeking handouts. It’s one more reason to shun the Useless Nations

What are government ministers and our Prime Minister doing “campaigning” in Africa at our expense? There is no tangible benefit for Canada or Canadians in this endeavour. Canada’s gross national income is about $1.679 trillion dollars. We are not spending quite 0.3% on African development or just under $5 billion annually. The United Nations wants Canada to hit a target of 0.7% or $11,753 billion. That is an increase of about $6.7 billion per year drawn out of our economy. This government is projecting a deficit of $19.8 billion for the current fiscal year. Someone is rowing madly with one oar in the water. This is insane. “Africa, with its 54 voting countries, is a kingmaker of sorts in the secret ballot at the UN General Assembly’s 190-plus countries.” This is an assembly of kingdoms, theocracies, dictatorships and tyrannies that rule with iron fists and have dismal human rights records . Funds intended for development wind up in the bank accounts ...
