Thoughts on BC Politics and More

The article,  Kamloops councillor, MLA hoping to have more input as BC mulls plan to weaken DRIPA , was shared on the Politics and More in BC and Across Canada Facebook page.  This topic, as will often happen, turned into a discussion about who we are as individuals: Settlers, Immigrants, Canadians, and First Nations. Cormac McCann had thoughts on the topic I believe are worth sharing, and they follow: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -   I hear what you’re saying, but I think there’s an important piece of history and present reality that can’t be left out of this conversation.   I was asked about the Canadian Future Party’s policy on immigration, and related plans. We have a massive shortage of workers, which is increasing as Baby Boomers age. Therefore, we propose: (1) Open stream for tradespeople and other immigrants ready to get trades training, to deal with shortage in the construction industry (2) expand trades programs across Canada, with federal support; (3) begin a national dialogue on Canada’s identity and values, to encourage social cohesion and creation of an inclusive civic nationalism; (4) work with medical societies, provinces and others to ensure medically trained immigrants are on a path to practice within three months of arriving; (5) allow provinces greater control over immigration, reflecting provincial needs and challenges. Here’s my take on the Don Cherry poppy debacle ... please take a moment to can readthe comments of Alan Forseth as well It's not offensive to state you think people should be more respectful of veterans and that you are pissed off people don’t wear poppies. I get that. I live in a base town and know veterans personally; most are recent veterans. But I support and respect their sacrifices and service to our country and wear a poppy to show that. But there are a lot of people who don’t buy poppies or even mark Remembrance Day. For some it's a statement against the industrial war complex, for some they just don’t want a hole in their jacket so they donate but decline a poppy. But Don Cherry didn’t say 'people'... he specifically singled out new immigrants. He then went on a rant about " you people" liking our milk and honey and way of life but not spending a buck for a poppy. First of all, how e...
