A community town hall meeting featuring BC United Leader Kevin Falcon, MLA Ellis Ross, and MLA Dan Davies is taking place in Fort St. John next month. Davies says he initially wanted to bring Ross, a BC United party member and the Shadow Minister for Energy and LNG, to Fort St. John a month and a half ago for a conversation. “I want to have a Town Hall with [him] and talk about the state of affairs in British Columbia and have a conversation about it,” Davies said ... Director for the Peace River Regional District Jordan Kealy announced that he submitted his nomination to run in next year’s election for the Peace River North riding. If he’s accepted, Kealy will run for the BC Conservative Party against the current MLA Dan Davies. He said his decision to run was due to frustrations with the NDP and BC United leadership. Kealy said working at the PRRD he’s, “making a difference in my current role and I love the job. I love being able to represent my constituents. Earlier in the Legislative session in Victoria, the NDP government introduced a bill entitled the Electoral Boundaries Commission Amendment Act, 2021. As harmless as this bill sounds, it has been one of the more contentious and hotly-debated bills of the spring session, and for good reason. This bill, which just passed (our whole caucus opposed it) has the potential to reduce rural representation and the rural voice in Victoria while increasing representation in more urban areas like Vancouver. While our Electoral Boundaries Commission reviews our riding boundaries once every two elections, the general goal is to provide equal representation for all British Columbians. But in recognition of the vast area and many geographic challenges of our province, the Commission itself has said that effective representation is not simply anchored to equality of population. As the NDP enter their fourth year in power, BC Liberal Critic for Education Dan Davies is raising concerns about the NDP’s years of broken promises and what challenges the COVID-19 pandemic will bring for students and families for the upcoming school year. “ The NDP promised to eliminate portables in Surrey within four years but instead, they’ve added 97 more portables and increased the total by 35 per cent ,” said Davies MLA for Peace River-North. “ In May, the NDP chose to slash 20 per cent of the funding to Independent Distributed Learning — a program that provides distance learning for many of British Columbia’s most vulnerable students — despite promising they wouldn’t. One of the amazing perks about living in the North Peace is our proximity to some of the greatest wildlife this province has to offer. I am sure everyone reading this is well aware that for us to continue to enjoy one of the greatest backyards in the world, we need to take care of it.   Preserving balance in our ecosystem is no small task and requires the cooperation of everyone in our province. Unfortunately, sometimes what people in power feel is the best foot forward can be a step in the wrong direction.    Recently, the current NDP government has been engaged in a deeply flawed plan to address our dwindling Southern Mountain Caribou populations — one which has failed miserably. For years, the Caribou file has been marked by a lack of public consultation and little consideration for rural communities.
