Politicians talk about a “new normal” following the relaxing of coronavirus regulations. There will be a “new normal” – for governments. We are weary of the continual bickering, posturing, promises and ongoing failures to put the interests and welfare of Canada and Canadians first in our governance considerations. Canadians were doing well caring for themselves, in spite of government meddling, and will do well caring for themselves as the coronavirus crisis passes. Our governments have no tools with which to eradicate or eliminate coronavirus. It is not the only uncontrolled virus we have to combat. The world will not stay “on pause” awaiting a coronavirus vaccine. There are better solutions. Government inaction was replaced with overreaction. Shutting down our economy and all social interactions was drastic and has serious financial repercussions. This aspect of the fallout was not given proper consideration when the decisions to shut down was made....

During a crisis, when we face the highly contagious and potentially deadly COVID-19 virus, we find ourselves in great anxiety, fear and uncertainty. Our enemy is invisible. We can’t avoid it or strike it down. We find ourselves helpless to do other than avoid others who might be infected and infect us. Isolation, which is contrary to our instincts, adds to our anxiety. We are social animals, who for many millennia have gathered in families and tribes for the benefits of community strength including protection from our enemies. “It takes a village . . . . ” is much more than a cute phrase. It speaks to our core as civilized humans and our interdependence. The child is safe within the community. Isolation, by banishment from the community, has been a punishment for those who commit capital crimes against members of the community for centuries. Prolonged isolation is both unnatural and unhealthy. We need our community to maintain psychological balance ...

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Rideau Cottage Earlier today I posted the following comment on social media ... How many more months does Captain Canada, Justin Trudeau, plan to hide out at Rideau Cottage while Chrystia Freeland and others continue to be face of our federal government during the COVID-19 crisis? Yes, I was being sarcastic, however there was sincerity to the question that I asked.   After all he has been in self-isolation, with his children, for well over two weeks now.   The original rationale was he was doing so because his wife had contracted COVID-19 during a trip to London; she went into quarantine on March 12 th .   Several days later reports stated that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and his three children were all feeling fine with no signs of the COVID-19 virus. BC Agriculture Minister Lana Popham This past Sunday Minister of Agriculture, Lana Popham, As the minister of agriculture, commented on two areas of concern regarding the BC farm, fish and food sector. The first of these was seasonal labour. According to Popham, more than 10,000 seasonal farm workers travel from their homes to work on farms and food-processing locations all over the province. They come from different regions, provinces and countries. Further she noted that ... it is the federal government that determines who can enter Canada and under what conditions. The Ministry of Agriculture’s executive team is working with the federal government and other provinces on a daily basis regarding foreign labour .
