Calling people born in Canada "settlers" is ridiculous. This is as ridiculous as Donald Trump trying to end "birth right citizenship."  If you're born in Canada, you are a Canadian, and this is your country of origin. Period. If you say that person doesn't and should not have full citizenship and the rights that come with it then you are defacto mouthing Donald Trump and MAGA's argument. While First Nations may not like to hear this, they too are settlers in North America.  I know that's not popular, but the First Nations' ancestors came here in waves as the last Ice Age was ending via a land bridge -- but also after that by ocean faring early humans. Their unique cultures trace back to Polynesian migration waves not the northern land bridge. But yes, First Nations were here first and what was done to them by our ancestors was beyond horrible. Alberta Premier, Danielle Smith, the darling of billionaire Texas oil men, recently told far-right media voice Breitbart that the US should pause its tariffs against Canada because it is benefiting the Liberals. Trump should want the CPC to win because "the perspective that Pierre would bring would be very much in sync with, I think…the new direction in America." Premier Smith is now the darling of the American far-right, addressing gatherings of American oil interests, speaking on popular right wing media, and appearing as a guest at a high profile fund raiser event with a noted MAGA mouthpiece. Meanwhile, she's been refusing to support Team Canada, actively promoting Poilievre, attacking Prime Minister Carney and trying to threaten and extort the federal government with a host of political demands that she claims must be met in 6 months to "avoid an unprecedented nation unity crisis." CTV News has the wrong headline. This isn't the U.S. provoking a trade war. This is Donald Trump and MAGA provoking a trade war. What I think about seeing that headline isn't that Trump and MAGA did this, but that so many Canadians truly never thought he'd go through with it. The number of people that told me it would never actually happen became so large I stopped counting. Now here we are. How long will it last? How devastating will this be? No one can give anyone else a good answer on that. I sure can't. This could come to an abrupt end in a few weeks or it could go on for years. Truly only the Americans can end this. Either Donald Trump ends this or he is removed from power and whoever takes over ends this. Certainly, negotiation can end this but that requires the Americans to follow through. No one is coming to our rescue either. Our European allies are mostly silent with a few former leaders saying the Trump is acting irrationally. Sit...
