“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

Premier Smith is now the darling of the American far-right, meanwhile, she's been refusing to support Team Canada

Alberta Premier, Danielle Smith, the darling of billionaire Texas oil men, recently told far-right media voice Breitbart that the US should pause its tariffs against Canada because it is benefiting the Liberals. Trump should want the CPC to win because "the perspective that Pierre would bring would be very much in sync with, I think…the new direction in America."

Premier Smith is now the darling of the American far-right, addressing gatherings of American oil interests, speaking on popular right wing media, and appearing as a guest at a high profile fund raiser event with a noted MAGA mouthpiece.

Meanwhile, she's been refusing to support Team Canada, actively promoting Poilievre, attacking Prime Minister Carney and trying to threaten and extort the federal government with a host of political demands that she claims must be met in 6 months to "avoid an unprecedented nation unity crisis."

That's right, she's using this critical moment in Canada's history to play partisan politics, support Trumps agenda, and advance the separation of Alberta from Canada.

It appears that Danielle Smith is more interested in fomenting Western Separation and delivering even more discounted crude oil to her rich American Oil Barons than she is in stopping their decades-long profiteering off Alberta's natural resources. And now she wants to make sure that Pierre Poilievre is installed in Ottawa so the plundering can continue.

Wake up Danielle. There is nothing to be gained by selling out your province or becoming the 51st state. You have been manipulated by foreign oil interests for so long that you've been brainwashed into thinking that they are your friends and your own country is your enemy. Face it, you are being held hostage and you're starting to exhibit Stockholm Syndrome.

Why are you letting your citizens settle for the crumbs off their own table? Wouldn't it be better to enjoy increased revenue by refining your own crude, selling it at a fair price to Canadians? Shouldn't that be your goal? Shouldn't you be working cooperatively with the Feds to make that happen, instead of making traitorous threats and sowing disunity?

It would seem to me that now, with Carney having grown up in Edmonton and Freeland an Alberta farm girl, this might be the moment you've been waiting for to make your case to people who understand what it means to be an Albertan.

But no. Instead, Premier Smith, you choose to bash Mr Carney and support a career politician from Quebec with little or no real world experience - a man whose resume is the very antithesis of the hard working people you were elected to represent. Yet, he brazenly claims to understand their needs.

It's ironic that Alberta has been calling Quebec the whining, spoiled child of confederation for years, when now that title best fits you.

I wonder, Premier Smith, is it easier to just keeping whining about how badly you've been treated by Ottawa and Quebec? Does it make you feel better to continue to squander what should be your people's wealth by blowing it out the door to a foreign country at cut rate prices, so it can be refined and sold back to your fellow Canadians at a giant profit for American mega corporations?

I am compelled to ask every Albertan, who does that really benefit? American oil interests, that's who. And they are not your friends - even if they are Danielle Smiths objects of desire.

I also wonder about all those Albertans who do not comprise the 6% who work in the oil and gas industry. What has Premier Smith done for you? I mean apart from costing you millions in her Healthcare scandal.

What has she done for the Alberta farmers and ranchers? You know, folks who do not have the billions in annual profits that Danielle works so hard to assure for her adoring U.S. oil buddies. Did she ask for a tariff exemption for beef or grain?

Independent farmers and ranchers are hard working people whose Alberta roots run deep. They have generations of toil, and their entire life savings, invested in the land.

What has she done to make their lives easier in this difficult time?

To make them more sustainable and profitable?

Has she helped them to worry one minute less about their future? Or, has she simply abandoned them to seek the favour of her more lucrative admirers in the boardrooms of the oil capitals of the southland?

While I am deeply disappointed in the divisive actions of Premier Danielle Smith, I have always respected Alberta and its people.

Maybe I'm naive but I suspect that the number of proud Canadians far outnumber the noisy MAGA advocates of the 51st state. I recognize that, like other Canadians, you have fought hard to build and defend this nation.

I hope we will come together in the days ahead to defend our sovereignty from those who scheme to profit from its loss.

BC’s Forestry Decline Is a Policy Failure, Not a Market Reality -- Forestry Critic Calls for Accountability and Urgent Policy Reset

Conservative Party of BC Forestry Critic, and Kamloops - North Thompson MLA,  Ward Stamer As the Truck Loggers Association convention begins today, BC Conservative Forestry Critic Ward Stamer says British Columbia’s forestry crisis is the result of government mismanagement, not market forces, and that an urgent policy reset is needed to restore certainty, sustainability, and accountability. “For generations, forestry supported families and communities across BC,” said Stamer.  “Today, mills are closing, contractors are parking equipment, and families are being forced to leave home, not because the resource is gone, but because policy has failed.” Government data shows timber shipment values dropped by more than half a billion dollars in the past year, with harvest levels falling by roughly 50 per cent in just four years. At the same time, prolonged permitting timelines, unreliable fibre access, outdated forest inventories, and rising costs have made long-term planning impossib...

BC cannot regulate, redesign, and reinterpret its way to a stable forestry sector. Communities need clear rules, predictable timelines, and accountability for results.

Photo credit:  Atli Resources LP   BC’s Forestry Crisis Continues with Closure of Beaver Cove Chip Facility   As industry leaders, Indigenous partners, and contractors gather this week at the BC Natural Resources Forum in Prince George, the gap between government rhetoric and reality could not be clearer. Just hours after the Eby government once again touted reconciliation, certainty, and economic opportunity under DRIPA, Atli Chip Ltd, a company wholly owned by the ’Na̱mg̱is First Nation, announced it is managing the orderly closure of its Beaver Cove chip facility. The closure comes despite public tax dollars, repeated government announcements, and assurances that new policy frameworks would stabilize forestry employment and create long-term opportunity in rural and coastal British Columbia. “British Columbians are being told one story, while communities are living another,” said Ward Stamer, Critic for Forests. “This closure makes it clear that announcement...

Stamer: Hope for Forestry Completely Shattered After Another Provincial Review Driven by DRIPA

IMAGE CREDIT:  Provincial Forestry Advisory Council Conservative Critic for Forests Ward Stamer says the final report from the Provincial Forestry Advisory Council confirms the worst fears of forestry workers and communities; instead of addressing the real issues driving mill closures and job losses, the NDP has produced a report that ignores industry realities and doubles down on governance restructuring. Despite years of warnings from forestry workers, contractors, and industry organizations about permitting delays, regulatory costs, fibre access, and the failure of BC Timber Sales, the PFAC report offers no urgency, no timelines, and no concrete action to stop the ongoing decline of the sector. “ This report completely shatters any remaining hope that the government is serious about saving forestry ,” said Stamer.  “ We didn’t need another study to tell us what industry has been saying for years. While mills close and workers lose their livelihoods, the NDP is focused on re...
