“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

DAY SEVEN ... the week of April 7th to 13th

This week the BC Conservative Party announced a new leader ... the Senate was holding community meetings on Bill C69 ... the federal Liberal government was ramming though another omnibus bill to hide things ... and we talked about independent journalism.

All that and more ... including these next ten commentaries ... the most read of the week.

#10   ADAM OLSEN”  Round-Up? Woodwynn was either organic or was on the way to becoming organic. The future of it was to achieve organic status. It runs next to ENNES, an important watershed within Saanich and Central Saanich

#9  Richard Neufeld: Some Provinces are calling Bill C-69 unconstitutional and a federal infringement on provincial jurisdiction, and others calling for its outright defeat

#8  ADAM OLSEN:  Minister after Minister stood and used the questions to attack the past 16 years of poor management from the former government

#7  TOM BIRCH: If Trudeau backs down, he shows himself to be the bully, and coward, that he is accused of being ... AND it looks more than ever like he is hiding something

#5  RICK PETERSON: Senate committee will hear about families being torn apart, savings drained by lack of work, towns dissolving under the pressure of lost jobs, and politics driving decisions rather than science

#4  Independent journalism?  Government rules for social media?  Banning comment from the right side of the political spectrum, and by extension interfering in the next election is going to work

#3  Is it a permission slip? Is it an obligatory tip of the hat? A minor detour? Has it changed anything?

#2 ... Remember a TV newscaster, turned BC Liberal cheerleader, who Tweeted about the soon-to-be LNG jackpot?  “What would you do with a trillion dollars” ... it’s a “Once in a generation bonanza announced in BC!”

#1  “The advantage I have is over a decade of experience in local politics, two decades in business, and a burning passion to see the other provinces become envious of BC” – Trevor Bolin, BC Conservative Party leader

Thanks again for being part of the journey on this blog ... for posting your comments ... and for your story idea suggestions – keep them coming!

Take care .... enjoy the rest of your day ... and we’ll be back tomorrow with more to hopefully challenge you on your thoughts ... and to consider those of others.

FORSETH: Without a strong local presence, there is NO reason for anyone to tune in to local(?) radio

LOCAL HOMETOWN RADIO IS DYING … and without serious measures put in place, it will likely never see the light of day again. For well over four decades, the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC) has presided over its’ demise, and for that I say, “Shame”. Without out a word to say enough was enough, the CRTC has allowed corporate Canada to buy up one radio station after the other, and then allowed them to slash staff to the point where some so-called local radio stations do nothing more than air programming that originates from communities well outside the region in which they are located. Case in point?   On CHNL* 610 in Kamloops, the morning show hosted by Vinnie and Randi, DOES NOT originate from Kamloops -- it doesn’t even originate here in BC. It’s a program that Stingray airs across multiple radio stations in Western Canada. It doesn’t end there. Not only are Vinnie and Rando doing mornings on CHNL, but they also show up on sister station Country 103 … and of course o...

Conservative Economic Team Responds to Urgent Industry Concerns

" For far too long, the BC NDP has ignored the economic challenges facing British Columbians. Manufacturing jobs are vanishing, forestry is in decline, and private sector employment growth has stagnated. Meanwhile, affordability has worsened for both families and businesses. British Columbians deserve better, and we’re here to deliver real solutions to rebuild our economy and create jobs that support everyday working people and their families ." – Gavin Dew, MLA and Shadow Minister for Jobs, Economy, Development, and Innovation.   December 3, 2024, Vancouver, BC – The Conservative economic team met today with business leaders and stakeholders to tackle critical issues impacting British Columbia’s economy. Attended by 9 critics from the Conservative Caucus, this meeting was convened by MLA Gavin Dew – Shadow Minister for Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation - as a direct response to an October 30th open letter from seven of the province’s largest industry associations. ...

CTV: Year-end interview with John Rustad on BC Conservatives' remarkable 2024

It’s been quite the year for BC Conservative Leader John Rustad – his party soaring from less than two per cent of the popular vote and no seats in the 2020 election to nearly winning this year’s election ... ... He insists he’ll support free votes by his members – and what sets his party apart is its willingness to allow such free speech. “That’s a big thing that you’ll see between us and the NDP – you will never see them say anything outside of their message box,” said Rustad. “And that’s not how I want to do politics. I actually think it’s OK to have differences, it's OK for people to disagree. But we do agree on the big things, the things that are important for the people of British Columbia"...
