“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

GIESBRECHT: Community engagement is a vital component of democratic governance

As I walked around the Farmers market last Saturday, a few thoughts sprang to mind, which I thought I would share. They involve the benefits of community engagement for the people and politicians.

Community engagement is a dynamic process that involves collaboration, and active participation, between the public and their elected representatives. This interaction fosters a mutually beneficial relationship that positively impacts both citizens and politicians.

Benefits for People

1.   Empowerment and Inclusion: Engaging with residents empowers individuals by giving them a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. When people feel included, they are more likely to participate actively in community affairs, leading to a more cohesive and supportive society.

2.   Improved Public Services: Direct communication with elected officials allows citizens to express their needs and preferences, which helps in tailoring public services to better meet those needs. Whether it's improving local infrastructure, enhancing educational facilities, or addressing public health issues, community engagement ensures that services are aligned with the actual requirements of the community.

3.   Enhanced Relationships: Community engagement fosters relationships and networks among community members. This interaction is invaluable as it leads to stronger community bonds, increased trust, and a collaborative spirit. These elements are essential for addressing community issues collectively and efficiently.

4.   Increased Accountability: When politicians actively engage with the residents of their community, they are more likely to be held accountable for their actions. This accountability ensures that elected officials act in the best interests of their constituents, maintaining transparency and integrity in governance.

Benefits for Politicians

1.   Policy Relevance and Effectiveness: Politicians who actively engage with their communities gain deeper insights into the specific needs and challenges faced by their constituents. This knowledge enables them to craft policies that are more relevant and effective, leading to better outcomes and higher public satisfaction.

2.   Building Trust and Credibility: Regular engagement with the community helps politicians build trust and credibility. By being accessible and responsive, politicians can demonstrate their commitment to serving the public, which is crucial for maintaining support and winning elections.

3.   Enhanced Communications: Community engagement provides politicians with direct feedback, allowing them to communicate more effectively. This two-way communication helps in clarifying policies, addressing concerns, and debunking misinformation, leading to a more informed electorate.

4.   Increased Support and Stability: Politicians who engage with their communities are more likely to enjoy sustained support. Engaged citizens are more likely to vote, participate in civic activities, and advocate for their representatives. This support not only helps politicians in their re-election efforts but also in achieving long-term political stability.

In conclusion, community engagement is a vital component of democratic governance, which brings significant benefits to both the public, and politicians. For citizens, it means empowerment, improved services, stronger social bonds, and greater accountability. For me it means the opportunity to develop more effective policies, to build enhanced trust and communication, and increased support and stability. This symbiotic relationship is essential for fostering a vibrant, responsive, and resilient community.

GIESBRECHT: Thank you everyone; and to Ward and Peter ... I'll see you in Victoria

I want to thank everyone who has shown me support in preparation for this Fall's critical provincial election. As a candidate, my only goal has always been to remove the dangerous Eby NDP from Victoria, and in doing so, improve the quality of life for the people of BC. This has not changed, and I am excited to now have the opportunity to deepen my ties in the riding of Vernon - Lumby as their representative for the Conservative Party of BC. I wish nothing but a Blue Wave to wash over Kamloops - Centre and Kamloops - North Thompson. I know know the team will excel going into October. Thank you everyone; and to Ward and Peter ... I'll see you in Victoria. For information on the campaign for Vernon - Lumby, and Dennis Giesbrecht, CLICK HERE From the Armchair Mayor: Giesbrecht moves into vacant Vernon spot for Conservatives

Conservative Party of BC Leader John Rustad Blasts NDP’s Catastrophic Mismanagement of BC’s Forestry Sector

David Eby and the BC NDP have gutted our forestry sector, leaving communities and workers behind. The BC Conservatives have a clear plan to restore our forests, support our workers, and ensure a sustainable future for BC’s forestry industry.” - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia     John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, today condemned Premier David Eby and the NDP for their continued decimation of the province’s once-thriving forestry sector, accusing the government of anti-forestry policies that have devastated workers, families, and communities across British Columbia. “Under the NDP, BC’s forest sector is in freefall. Nine major sawmills have closed in the past 18 months, and contractors and businesses are fleeing the province,” said Rustad. “Forestry isn’t just an industry—it’s the backbone of our province, supporting communities, families, and our economy. The NDP’s hostility towards this vital sector shows conte
