METIS NATION BC - Many
of us are noticing the impacts of climate change on our communities and the
lands we rely on, including record wildfires, drought, extreme weather, more
frequent flooding and loss of salmon.
The provincial
government is developing a climate
preparedness and adaptation strategy to prepare for the impacts
of climate change and help communities stay resilient in the face of climate
change.
The BC government is inviting Metis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) community members to share their experiences of how climate change is affecting their families, communities and lands, and provide any ideas for building a resilient future. People can provide input by filling out a questionnaire – either online or via paper copies available at the MNBC office, adding their comments to the online discussion forum, or sending in a written submission.
Input for this first phase will be accepted until January 10, 2020. Additional opportunities for feedback on a discussion paper will follow in 2020, with the release of the final climate preparedness and adaptation strategy later in the year.
The provincial government’s CleanBC plan commits the Province to develop a climate adaptation strategy in collaboration with Indigenous peoples.
