“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

JOHN TWIGG -- Demonstrations for "Black Lives Matter" make a mockery of COVID-19 rules

The follies of our modern world just seem to keep on growing, and being compounded, by mounting hypocrisies amongst our people and their politicians.

A good example of that was the recent Black Lives Matter rallies that happened all over the world even though the original triggering incident was notable more by having been caught on video than for the substance of it: yet another in-custody death of a "racialized" person for reasons which now might never be known - yet the outrage against it was so visceral and wide-spread that they made a mockery of the COVID-19 lock-down rules.

Even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defied Public Health rules on social distancing and limits on event attendance to speak at a #BLM rally, and then walk in a parade, albeit wearing a mask.

In other words, the Prime Minister made a mockery of his own rules.

So, it's okay for tens of thousands of radical leftists and other "progressive" people to bunch together in protest but God help the poor little church that dares to let more than 50 people attend a regular Sunday service.

And it's okay to kill the economy in the cause of public health, but it's not okay to support the police in their attempts to maintain social order?? (The Minneapolis victim George Floyd was no angel; he didn't claim to have done nothing, only that what he had done was "minor", and if/when a trial ever happens it probably will come out that he had strongly resisted arrest, him being a six-foot-six bar bouncer.)

It's madness, mass mania, and more than a few people see it, including commentators Michael Campbell and Bruce Allen who both provided brilliant critiques of it in their spots this morning on CKNW, which you can hear at 8:24:30 and 8:37:40 respectively.

Similar themes were discussed after 9 a.m. by CKNW show host Mike Smyth and his regular guest Keith Baldrey, Global TV's bureau chief in the Victoria Legislature, who reported that when [or if] the B.C. Legislative Assembly does reconvene on June 22 that only 30 MLAs will be in the room while the remainder - about 50 - will be present via video links (probably Skype), and those comments also can be heard via CKNW's Audio Vault.

As a caller said in some anguish: "We're getting shut out of democracy here." But similar sentiments could be expressed by many people in private-sector businesses for whom the cure is worse than the disease might have been.

Another example of that type of conundrum is the coming U.S. Presidential election on Nov. 3 now officially between Republican incumbent Donald Trump and old Democrat warhorse Joe Biden, which for many voters will be about choosing the lesser evil. [I happen to like lots of Trump's policies, e.g. opposing China, defunding the World Health Organization, but I must admit that his style is too often clumsy, e.g. pulling U.S. troops out of Europe will let Germany rise anew.]

Nonetheless as Baldrey noted, almost every government now has "eye-popping approval ratings"; he was talking about Canada but it seems to apply world-wide, with governments seeming to be able to have things both ways.

Meanwhile the social order is still in decay, not only around the world but also here in Canada and B.C. where taxpayers are buying up hotels and motels to house street people and soon may have to pay huge sums to equip every police officer with a body camera.

The education system is another prime example of dysfunction, as politically-correct school boards deliver policies that penalize religiosity and ban the teaching of Bible values in classrooms and private schools are increasingly seen as elitist when really, they're a last bastion of religious freedom.

I could go on but it seems common sense is fading and adherence to God's guidelines is virtually gone.

As I've pointed out in previous newsletters, the current-event travails of the world are predicted with remarkable accuracy in numerous scriptures, notably Matthew 24, though to understand some of them you need a program to see who is playing third base, who is pitching and what the lineups are - which details were coded in symbology some two or three thousand years ago.

The names have changed but the identities remain the same.

GUEST COMMENTARY from Casey Timmermans -- "
These principles are the building blocks for social freedom because without them everything collapses in chaos"

The spiritual principle is very simple: love God first, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” ... or one leg of the guiding principles for the Rotary Club: “Is it fair to all concerned?”

The images of the murder of George Floyd should give all of us a pause for thought as we reflect on the current discrimination that black communities suffer from, which is very real.

The failed and tired proposed solutions by the political left will not bring about its meaningful empowerment to individuals within these harmed communities. Our First Nations and the American black community also have to play their part in this as well. The key to empowerment must come from neutral rules and laws that empower all citizens neutrally.

FORSETH: Without a strong local presence, there is NO reason for anyone to tune in to local(?) radio

LOCAL HOMETOWN RADIO IS DYING … and without serious measures put in place, it will likely never see the light of day again. For well over four decades, the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC) has presided over its’ demise, and for that I say, “Shame”. Without out a word to say enough was enough, the CRTC has allowed corporate Canada to buy up one radio station after the other, and then allowed them to slash staff to the point where some so-called local radio stations do nothing more than air programming that originates from communities well outside the region in which they are located. Case in point?   On CHNL* 610 in Kamloops, the morning show hosted by Vinnie and Randi, DOES NOT originate from Kamloops -- it doesn’t even originate here in BC. It’s a program that Stingray airs across multiple radio stations in Western Canada. It doesn’t end there. Not only are Vinnie and Rando doing mornings on CHNL, but they also show up on sister station Country 103 … and of course o...

Conservative Economic Team Responds to Urgent Industry Concerns

" For far too long, the BC NDP has ignored the economic challenges facing British Columbians. Manufacturing jobs are vanishing, forestry is in decline, and private sector employment growth has stagnated. Meanwhile, affordability has worsened for both families and businesses. British Columbians deserve better, and we’re here to deliver real solutions to rebuild our economy and create jobs that support everyday working people and their families ." – Gavin Dew, MLA and Shadow Minister for Jobs, Economy, Development, and Innovation.   December 3, 2024, Vancouver, BC – The Conservative economic team met today with business leaders and stakeholders to tackle critical issues impacting British Columbia’s economy. Attended by 9 critics from the Conservative Caucus, this meeting was convened by MLA Gavin Dew – Shadow Minister for Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation - as a direct response to an October 30th open letter from seven of the province’s largest industry associations. ...

WARD STAMER -- We need certainly in our markets, and certainly in our fibre supply, before we no longer have a forest industry in this province

Image Government of BC I think we all realize that the threat of Trump’s 25% tariff is like other provocative statements he’s made in the past. That said, we should have reason to be concerned. Tariffs don’t benefit anyone. A tariff of that magnitude – included on our own softwood lumber exports, will make things more expensive for Americans, and cause friction in the supply chain. If imposed, a twenty-five percent tariff will be equally detrimental to the citizens and economy of the United States, as well as the people of BC. There are two things, however, of equal concern to the threat of punitive tariffs by incoming U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. One is our antiquated stumpage fees. It is a legacy from decades ago, and one incapable of responding to changing market conditions. We need to revamp our stumpage system to better reflect market conditions, and our economic costs. Instead, a value-added tax system will be instantly responsive to current market conditions and will encou...
