“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

ADAM OLSEN -- Join my colleague Sonia Furstenau and I in a Facebook Live discussion with Alex Soojung-Kim Pang regarding his research on the four-day workweek

When I asked in this blog post what you thought about the potential of a four-day workweek you responded with great interest. I received a lot of positive feedback.

There were many questions as well. Business owners and workers alike wanted to know how it would impact them.

As we address the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have the opportunity to be a climate leader, make strategic investments and build a low-carbon, sustainable, just and inclusive economy for all.

The BC Green Caucus is committed to exploring and proposing ideas. We will continue promoting long term, evidence-based policies that address the inequalities and disparate impacts of COVID-19 on women, minority groups, low-paid workers and marginalized communities.

So, as we began exploring the idea of a four-day workweek one of the first people that my colleague Sonia Furstenau and I connected with was Alex Soojung-Kim Pang. He is a futurist, founder of Strategy + Rest, and the author of Shorter: Work Better, Smarter and Less - Here’s How. In Shorter, Pang shares the stories of the innovators of the four-day workweek and how they have transformed their relationship with work.

Join my colleague Sonia Furstenau and I in a Facebook Live discussion with Alex Soojung-Kim Pang to find out what he has learned in his research on the four-day workweek.

Conservative Party of BC Calls for Coroner’s Inquest in the Death of Chantelle Williams

Chantelle Williams/Facebook “Somebody has to come out and tell the truth on what happened and who’s at fault” ~~ Martin Watts, Uncle of Chantelle Williams The Conservative Party of BC is urgently calling for a coroner’s inquest into the death of 18-year-old Indigenous youth Chantelle Williams, who tragically died under the care of Usma Nuu-chah-nulth Family and Child Services, an agency of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Her family is disturbed by the lack of transparency and unanswered questions surrounding her final moments, and are seeking answers on who was responsible for her care and supervision and why no one noticed she was missing until it was too late. Chantelle was found unresponsive in Port Alberni in the early morning of January 28, 2025. She was later pronounced dead in the hospital. Temperatures had dropped below –7°C the night of her death. Her family is demanding clarity on the circumstances that led to her untimely passing, and they demand answ...

FORSETH: Bill 7 will strip away 150+ years of democratic representation. Tell me, what does that sound like to you?

Sadly, many people are completely unaware of what BC NDP Premier David Eby is doing in trying to ram through Bill 7 .  In a nutshell, he is taking our provincial government into authoritarian rule under the guise of needing to be able to react to attacks on our economy by Donald Trump. I ask the question, however …. “If this is REALLY necessary, then why is NO OTHER provincial or territorial government asking for the same powers?” Plain and simple, this is government over-reach, and an assault on the democratic process we have had in our provincial legislature since confederation – over one hundred and fifty years ago.  But you don’t have to take my word for it. Simply Google Bill 7 and read and see for yourself. Here's just a small sampling of what you’ll find: Times Colonist Editorial : Government's Bill 7 is a disgraceful overreach Bill 7, as drafted, basically gives Eby the power to do as he pleases, across almost the entire field of public policy, without any oversight or...

Former MLA Karin Kirkpatrick launches new Centre BC party in 'overhaul' for BC voters

There could be another option for the next provincial election after Karin Kirkpatrick, a former B.C. United MLA for West Vancouver - Capilano, registered a new party with Elections B.C. Named CentreBC, the new party is Kirkpatrick’s effort to provide voters a centrist alternative to what she sees as the left-wing NDP government and the right-wing Conservative opposition, she says ...
