Should we really be
building halfway houses for ‘violent' criminals ... right in the middle of our
communities?
Unbeknownst to most
residents, many are placed smack in the middle of Canada’s cities and
neighbourhoods, like this one in Victoria right behind me.
They hold (some of) this
country’s most notorious rapists and murderers, and pedophiles who have just
been released from prison on parole, many of whom have not been rehabilitated
at all.
And for some inconceivable
reason, we don’t even use basic technology to track their location – allowing them
to simply take off whenever, and wherever, they want.
That’s exactly what
happened when 29-year-old Jesse Goodale took off earlier this week, forcing police
to issue a nation-wide warrant for his arrest.
This is the same
individual who brutally and mercilessly attacked an innocent father and
business owner from Nanaimo, with a machete ... leaving him with life-threatening
injuries, and fighting for his life.
It’s a crime that was
just the most recent, in what is a long history of violence. And look, that’s
not to say that many of these halfway houses don’t do great work ... they do!
But we need to get smarter
with how we manage our criminal population.
Starting with putting
the safety and security of our society, first.
