“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

SEAN SMITH -- Too many organizations are simply sustaining the problem because ending it means ending their cash flow

This CBC story is one of the many reasons I decided to run for the Courtenay - Comox nomination under the BC Conservative banner. I am so tired of seeing members of the BC NDP, or bureaucrats from their government, tell us that these things are not happening, and that what they are doing is saving lives. I am sure that it is helping some people, but on the street, safe supply, has basically become currency for exchange, either for money or harder drugs. I have seen it in-person because this is where I worked (seriously, I know everyone being interviewed for this piece). They keep telling us that it is a complex problem. Well, you don’t apply a blanket solution to a complex problem, and you don’t do it without an end game plan ... and I don’t see an end game here. I only see more problems. Instead, I have watched as the BC NDP government of Premier David Eby throws tax dollars down the rabbit hole, in some belief that organizations like the Drugs User Liberation Front (DULF) we...

Statement on disastrous and continued mismanagement of Highway 26 in North Cariboo

The Conservative Party of BC and Sheldon Clare, candidate for Prince George-North Cariboo, released the following statement on the disastrous and continued mismanagement of Highway 26 and a petition received by residents who live in the Wells and Quesnel area: “As British Columbians are thinking about packing up their cars and exploring the province this summer, the last thing they should be worried about is their own safety while driving on a taxpayer-funded road,” said Conservative Party of BC leader John Rustad. “We have heard loud and clear from the hundreds of residents along the Wells and Quesnel area who presented their concerns to the Conservative Party of BC regarding the terrible and dangerous state of Highway 26. It’s time for action to be taken.” “The NDP’s track record of fiscal mismanagement and failure to invest in critical infrastructure projects, like Highway 26, is simply not acceptable or sustainable,” he added. “The people living in, working in, and travelin...

RACHAEL WEBER: This is my home–I’ve lived in Mackenzie for over 20 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this

The Conservative Party of BC calls on the province to supply Mackenzie following yet another extension of shortages to ongoing physician and nursing staff. Conservative candidate for Prince George-Mackenzie Rachael Weber said the following: “This is my home–I’ve lived in Mackenzie for over 20 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this. This NDP government does not care about rural communities and our needs. The shortage of hospital staff is not sustainable, and it puts lives at risk,” said Weber. “We need to get serious about this problem. I am calling on this NDP government to immediately take action by supplementing our shortages with nurses and doctors. Conservatives Call For Action Following Hospital Closure In Mackenzie They can do this tomorrow by hiring back our healthcare workers, just like every other jurisdiction already did in this world. Or they can incentivize healthcare workers to move to Mackenzie and other rural areas. We need to make it easier to come and live here–...

The Conservative Party of BC Welcomes Chris Moore to the Team

As the Conservative team continues to grow, Chris Moore will bring valuable experience and advocacy to our common sense vision for the province The Conservative Party of BC is pleased to announce that Chris Moore, the former BC United candidate for Powell River-Sunshine Coast, is joining the common sense movement of dedicated British Columbians who want to see a better, safer, and more affordable BC. "Chris has an outstanding record of service to this community and will be a strong advocate for the people of Powell River-Sunshine Coast," stated Conservative leader John Rustad. "Chris has talked with hundreds of constituents and understands that there are serious concerns in this riding that need to be addressed with clear and definitive actions, and the Conservatives will do just that with Chris as the MLA in this riding." "I believe that the NDP have done little to address serious problems such as affordability, crime and healthcare. On a daily basis, these i...

GIESBRECHT: Community engagement is a vital component of democratic governance

As I walked around the Farmers market last Saturday, a few thoughts sprang to mind, which I thought I would share. They involve the benefits of community engagement for the people and politicians. Community engagement is a dynamic process that involves collaboration, and active participation, between the public and their elected representatives. This interaction fosters a mutually beneficial relationship that positively impacts both citizens and politicians. Benefits for People 1.    Empowerment and Inclusion : Engaging with residents empowers individuals by giving them a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. When people feel included, they are more likely to participate actively in community affairs, leading to a more cohesive and supportive society. 2.    Improved Public Services : Direct communication with elected officials allows citizens to express their needs and preferences, which helps in tailoring public services to better meet those needs....

DAN ALBAS -- Tax will hit a family inheriting a farm or recreational property, or a small business owner retiring or selling for personal reasons

If you follow the news from Ottawa, you may know that the Liberal government, backed by the Federal NDP, plans to increase the capital gains tax. This news might not affect most people, but it could be problematic for some, particularly farmers, doctors and small business owners who rely on capital gains for their retirement. In basic terms, capital gains tax is a tax levied on the profit you make from selling certain types of assets or properties in Canada, such as stocks, bonds, precious metals, or certain real estate. This tax only applies when you sell these items. The "inclusion rate" applies to the profit from the sale of these assets. Some or all of the profit from a capital gain is limited by this rate. For example, a home designated as a "principal residence" is exempt from capital gains tax. Many non-exempt assets are subject to a capital gains tax, which is currently applied to 50% of sale profits. The Trudeau Liberals propose increasing t...
