BC GREEN PARTY announces names of the official candidates running for leadership of the party

This morning I received an email from Lesley Malcolm (Field Team Coordinator for the BC Green Party) advising that the leadership application period has closed, and that there were three official leadership candidates. They are:

Kim Darwin of Sechelt ...

  • According to her campaign website, she is an entrepreneur, successful business owner and employer. She is also a volunteer, community worker, board member, social justice activist, champion of small business, and climate advocate.


Sonia Furstenau of Shawnigan Lake, and the MLA for Cowichan ...

  • According to her campaign website, Sonia grew up with a strong sense of the importance of democracy. As an MLA for the Party, she has served as the lead spokesperson for seven different government files.


Cam Brewer ... an environmental lawyer form Vancouver

  • According to his campaign website, Cam has been bringing people together to create environmental, economic, and social justice solutions for nearly 30 years. He’s a community organizer, lawyer, entrepreneur, accountant, author, and professor.


According to Malcom, “These campaigns are going to be working hard over the next 38 days before voting opens to share their ideas and to grow our party membership.”

Deadline for supporters and individuals, who wish to vote for the next leader, is September 2nd.  There will also be an official Leadership debate held on September 1st – details on this are to follow according to Malcolm.

A message from BC Conservative MLA Ward Stamer, and the Kamloops – North Thompson Riding Association

2025 was a busy first year. As a Caucus, we worked very hard to defeat Bills 14 and 15, legislation which allows the provincial government to move ahead without environmental assessments on renewable projects, and that also allows cabinet to build infrastructure projects without getting approval from local municipal governments. This is not acceptable to your BC Conservative caucus, and we will continue to press this government for open and transparent projects in the future.  Two things we had success in were having the first Private Members bill passed in over 40 years. The first was Jody Toors Prenatal and Post Natal Care bill, and then there was my private members Bill M217 Mandatory Dashcams in commercial vehicles (passed second reading unanimously and is heading to Committee in February). Wildfire waste plan torched -- Forestry critic Stamer calls BC's wildfire salvage rate 'a failure'

Claims that BC is making progress salvaging wildfire-damaged timber are masking deeper problems in the forest sector, the province’s forestry critic says.
