DARSHAN MAHARAJA: Update on my question to CPC leader Pierre Poilievre about Section 21 (1) of the Bank Act


 

 

 

 

Last week, I posed a question to Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) leader, Pierre Poilievre, about Section 21, sub-section (1) of the Bank Act. A plain reading suggested that all banks in Canada would be shut down after June 30, 2025. 

With the help of friends online, I have learned that is not the case - there is context to that law. The provision is meant to ensure regular review of the functioning of the financial sector. 

Still, a couple of minor but nagging questions remain.

Image Government of BC I think we all realize that the threat of Trump’s 25% tariff is like other provocative statements he’s made in the past. That said, we should have reason to be concerned. Tariffs don’t benefit anyone. A tariff of that magnitude – included on our own softwood lumber exports, will make things more expensive for Americans, and cause friction in the supply chain. If imposed, a twenty-five percent tariff will be equally detrimental to the citizens and economy of the United States, as well as the people of BC.
