Amidst the kaleidoscopic chaos coursing out of Donald Trump’s White House, one particular sub-plot has received somewhat less public and media attention, and little obvious notice from Canadian policy-makers.

Trump and his allies have turned their administrative guns on the US $47.4 billion National Institutes of Health, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and federal research granting agencies. What’s more, the confirmation of anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary for health and human services all but guarantees that MAGA politics will send a deep chill through medical research and public health policy for the foreseeable future ...

... We ought to take full advantage of the fall-out from Trump’s post-fact/anti-science crusade. The Canadian government, provincial higher education ministries and individual universities should be racing to find ways to attract American scientists whose research funding has suddenly dried up in the face of political attacks ...
