Old Cowichan Hospital should be kept for mental-health care, rehabilitation, says Duncan council (Times Colonist)
Duncan council is calling for the Cowichan District Hospital building to be used as a mental-health care and rehabilitation facility once a larger replacement hospital opens north of the city in 2027.
Coun. Tom Duncan said it’s worth keeping the old building, which opened in 1967, since it’s needed and tearing it down would be expensive, particularly if there are hazardous materials in the structure that could drive up the dismantling cost if disturbed. “We need it. We need it for mental health. We need it for rehab,” he said. “This is the time to start lobbying” ...
