VANCOUVER SUN Update: MLA's defection to B.C. Conservatives could spell trouble for B.C. United party
The defection of a B.C. United MLA to the B.C. Conservatives, giving them official party status, could lead to vote-splitting among the right and create problems for Kevin Falcon’s newly renamed party, political watchers say.
Bruce Banman, the B.C. United MLA for Abbotsford South, announced Wednesday he had crossed the floor to join John Rustad’s B.C. Tories.
Banman, a former Abbotsford mayor who was elected provincially in 2020, said he found it hard under the B.C. United to “bring up local issues and vote my conscience — to support those that voted for me to bring their concerns to Victoria — because it was either politically inconvenient or sometimes not politically correct.”
