PEATS: I am writing with a critical concern regarding the imminent closure of the Eljen Medical Clinic, a vital healthcare facility in our community


The following is a copy of a letter sent to me, which was sent to BC’s Minister of Health Adrian Dix. It is with regards to the impending closure of the Eljen Medical Clinic in Dawson Creek. 



Dear Minister,

 

I am writing to you today with a critical concern regarding the imminent closure of the Eljen Medical Clinic, a vital healthcare facility in our community.

The closure, scheduled for the summer of 2024, is a result of the utterly burdensome terms and conditions imposed by the bureaucratic Northern Health. As a result, Dawson Creek stands to lose four doctors who have made this city their home, and who wish to continue serving the people of our community.

 

The impending closure of the Eljen Medical Clinic is a significant blow to our city. Not only will it result in the loss of highly qualified and dedicated healthcare professionals, but it will also deprive thousands of Dawson Creek residents of access to their primary physicians. At a time when healthcare services are more crucial than ever, this closure is a step backward for our community.

 

Moreover, the timing of this closure is particularly concerning as we anticipate the opening of a new hospital shortly. With the opening of this new facility, the need for healthcare providers will only increase. It is clear that we need more doctors, not fewer, to meet the growing healthcare needs of our community.

 

Furthermore, it is disheartening to learn that doctors are afraid to speak out due to fears of reprisals from Northern Health. This culture of fear and intimidation is unacceptable and undermines the integrity of our healthcare system. Our healthcare professionals should feel supported and empowered to advocate for the best interests of their patients and our community.

 

Therefore, I urge you, Minister of Health, to intervene on behalf of the residents of Dawson Creek. It is imperative that you take a stand against the closure of the Eljen Medical Clinic and work to address the concerns raised by our healthcare providers. We need your leadership and advocacy to ensure that our community has access to the quality healthcare services it deserves.

 

I respectfully request that you explore all available options to prevent the closure of the Eljen Medical Clinic and to support our doctors in continuing their practice in Dawson Creek. Together, we can work towards a solution that prioritizes the health and well-being of our community.

 

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt action and support on behalf of the residents of Dawson Creek.

    My doctor is leaving when contact expires… the hillbilly mentality is intolerable .The options for families when it comes to recreation are dismal. Its a great place if you love pizza as that is 90% of the resteraunts. The problems are much bigger it will take a new generation of problem solvers that strive for equality and honesty before any effects are felt by the people who live and work here… its next to impossible to enroll a child in swimming lessons … their excuse is they cant find the staff… when in reality we know people have to meet hidden requirements,,, blair and mike could tell you what those requirements are.

One arrested at OneBC event at UVic that draws protesters (Times Colonist)

Conservative Opposition Leader John Rustad says Premier David Eby has been caught misleading the public after court records confirmed the government never filed the stay of the Cowichan ruling the NDP repeatedly promised. “For four months, the Premier said the stay was being sought, the Attorney General claimed the application was underway, and the government told British Columbians that action was coming.
