“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

DEVON KRUGGEL: Rachael Gilmore debunks a right wing piece of fake news

I'll let Ms. Gilmore do most of the talking as her piece is excellent. Just to make it clear: she is an actual investigate journalist with accreditation and real training.

She is not some citizen journalist. She went to school. She works in the field. As mentioned, she has press credentials which means she actually gets access to media rooms, conferences, press galleys, etc where real journalists can ask questions. Citizens journalists do not do that nor can they.

Unlike journalists and the accredited media, people that produce non-news television programs and movies aren't held to the same standards when it comes to bias. Mr. Mastin's job and that of the CMPA is to lobby governments in Canada for monetary support for local productions.

To sum up the issue first.

Conservative influencers and some elected Conservatives shared a screen shot with the words "we have your back" claiming this came from the news media to Mark Carney and the Liberals. Their claim was that this was the proof that the news media was biased.

It sure looks and sounds damning!

First, the clip was not scrubbed from the internet. It was put in the CPAC public archive where anyone can view it. This is standard practice for CPAC. That first line is a lie.

Second, the speaker is a man named Reynolds Mastin and he doesn't speak for or represent the news media. He is the President of the Canadian Media Producers Association. That association is for independent producers of scripted television and movies. They have nothing to do with journalism, news broadcasts, news papers, etc.

Unlike journalists and the accredited media, people that produce non-news television programs and movies aren't held to the same standards when it comes to bias. Mr. Mastin's job and that of the CMPA is to lobby governments in Canada for monetary support for local productions.

So, the news media doesn't have an official group that just endorsed the Liberals. That never happened.

There is a group called the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) and they do monitor journalists and news services of their members. They have strict ethical guidelines on reporting. This group is for accredited journalists.

Your citizen journalists and content creators are rarely members of the CAJ. You can tell that because they are clearly advocating for a particular political party and they use techniques that the CAJ would consider violations of their ethical Code of Conduct.

I'm going to close this post with something for people on the political right to consider: this kind of content is becoming more and more common from right wing creators. I follow a lot of right wing media, main stream media, and leftist content. I'm familiar with a lot of media.

This, though, crosses a line that should anger conservatives and Conservatives.

You should be furious at these people that purposely tried to manipulate you.

No, you don't have to change your vote to Liberal or NDP or Green or whatever. You should still vote Conservative if that's where your ideology lands. But you have a duty and responsibility to hold the people on your side accountable and some of them just did their best to manipulate you. They crossed an ethical line.

At the very least, if it was your MP that re-posted the meme you should contact their office and say, "You were wrong. You need to issue an apology and un-follow that creator on social media."

WARD STAMER -- Those are REAL forestry numbers, not just made-up numbers

The following is a condensed version of remarks Kamloops – North Thompson MLA Ward Stamer’s made, regarding Forestry, in the BC Legislature, on Tuesday afternoon (02/24/2026)   Let’s talk a little bit, when we talk about Budget 2026, about the forest industry, which is near and dear to my heart. Forestry remains one of British Columbia’s foundational industries. It’s a pillar that built this province. Entire communities depend upon it. Interior towns, northern communities, Vancouver Island regions, the Kootenays, the Lower Mainland, with manufacturing facilities in Surrey and Maple Ridge, just to name a few — everywhere in BC is touched by forestry. One word that was not mentioned in Budget 2026 was forestry. That’s a shame, an incredible shame. It wasn’t an oversight – it was intentional. This government has driven forestry into the ground .... INTO THE GROUND! We can talk a little bit about some of the initiatives that this government has brought forth, to try to resurrect ...

FORSETH -- Before anyone gets excited about one poll showing a candidate with a 25 percent lead, and 44 percent support overall, let’s give it a few more weeks

Is this based in reality -- how accurate are the numbers? In the past couple of weeks a couple of candidates, for the leadership of the BC Conservative Party, have been presenting polling results that they lead the pack – one even going so far as to say they have a lock on 44% of those who will be voting, and a twenty-five percent lead over the individual ranked second. I am going to say that this one, from Kerry-Lynne Findlay, is highly suspect. First of all the company conducting the poll, ERG National Research, is not a Member of Industry Bodies (the Canadian Research Insights Council), meaning they do not adhere to established industry standards for research, such as transparency, privacy, and methodological rigor. AI Overview states that ... based on alerts from the Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC) and reports, ERG National Research should be treated with extreme caution regarding its reliability, and legitimacy, in conducting political polling. Before I even read this in...

FORSETH -- Focus on the nine things I mentioned. That’s what will allow the Conservative Party to win the next election

IMAGE CREDIT:   Darryl Dyck, the Canadian Press. I thought I had already made up my mind who I would be ranking on my ballot, in the Conservative Party of BC leadership race; now I am not so sure.  That means that, at least for me, and perhaps many others, it’s a good thing voting hasn’t already taken place. There were initially only one or two of the candidates that I thought might be a little too right of centre for my liking, now it seems that list is growing. I consider myself more closely aligned with what used to be called a Progressive Conservative, regardless, I feel more than comfortable within the Conservative Party of BC.  Some, however, in messages to me on my political Facebook page, have been rather, shall we say, a bit mean-spirited in comments they’ve made about my ‘purity’ as a conservative. To tell you the truth, I really don’t care! Some leadership candidates, in comments made online, have also been raising the issue of who is a pure enough conservati...
