The Leaders' Debate Commission, the body organizing two major federal election debates, has invited the leaders of five political parties to participate with the notable exception of People's Party Leader Maxime Bernier.
He has been left off the list, at least for now.
Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet, Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, Liberal Party Leader Justin Trudeau and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh have secured tickets to the Oct. 7 English-language debate and the French-language affair on Oct. 10.
These debates will be carried by a consortium of major television
broadcasters, including CBC.

This
works for Bernier and the People’s Party Canada (PPC).
If he had been included in the debates, no one would have paid any attention. By excluding Bernier, there will be arguments, debates and speculation about what appears to be an effort to censor a major televised political debate.
People who would otherwise not have bothered will go to the PPC web site to see what they are being prevented from hearing and seeing.
Bernier can’t buy that amount of widespread publicity. The cloud has a silver lining for Bernier that will shine brighter as the election nears and interest picks up.
The
Leaders' Debate Commission unintentionally gave him a hand up other party
leaders would die for.
Carpe diem!
