“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST BRILLIANT; ‘In Brendon's defence...I still don't know how much Scheer spends on hookers and blow’

PLEASE NOTE ... this commentary was edited at 12:30pm to correct several spelling errors, and for grammar.  The thrust of the story has not in any way been changed

It’s interesting how (un)informed, and (un)enlightened some people can be when it comes to providing thoughtful discussion on all manner of topics ... especially politics.

Take comments made to a post in the Tyee on Facebook, about allegations that Conservative Party leader has no idea what it’s like to have the money to pay bills at the end of the month.

Instead of understanding that coming from a solid middle-class family would have given him an eyeful about difficulties they face, instead the story went straight to when he went in to politics, and the salary he earned then.  Apparently, a back-bench salary is a financial jackpot.  It would seem Paul Wilcocks, the writer of the article, may perhaps be unaware of the costs and toll it can and often does take on a family, for someone who for the best of intentions gets involved in politics  ... especially when they are trying to make positive change for Canadian families.

Workers in the resource industry can easily earn well over $100,000 a year ... some in hi-tec as well ... and in other jobs ... and I’m sure that Willcocks, as a former newspaper publisher probably didn't have to beat the wolves away from the door either.

Regardless, it seems that brilliance knows no bounds, and comments are easy to make, on this and similar stories about Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer.

Here are just a few examples of what showed up on Facebook once the Tyee story was published:

Gilmore G ... He's a out of touch piece of shit. Who's this news to?

James T ... He’s a piece of shit – along with ... cry me a fucking river dude

Brenda M ... I'm always popping the tums when the property tax notice arrives for my ocean front cottage on the same day as my yacht payment is due as well.... it can be tough. That's why we need to stop all the degenerates from sucking up our hard-earned dollars with disability payments.

Nevin W ... probably had to go to gay conversion therapy – along with ... don't worry, ill run for election one day, and just fuck everything up royally

Brendan C .... don't know how much he spends on hookers and blow

Amy G ... In Brendon's defense...I still don't know how much Scheer spends on hookers and blow

Or Gilmore G coming back with a gif of a boxing match captioned, “When ConBotz try to start shit with well informed, educated Canadians

Of course, I was included in the onslaught  once I began to call these individuals out on the clever remarks they were making through  comments.

Here’s one from Brendan C ... Alan Forseth I don’t trust or value the opinions of Facebook trolls who are too scared to post pictures of themselves. Your profile is just a bunch of political profile pics. No thanks step on dude

Or this one from Nevin W ... bro hasn't eaten only oatmeal for a week and it shows

Some of these individuals may actually have been involved in elections and campaigns, and know what goes into them ... along with the sacrifices that have to be made.

It’s NO piece of cake and I know it --- I actually did put my money where my mouth was and ran for office as an MLA for the BC Legislature many years ago.  It was one of the hardest things I have every done, but the learning I gained about what I was made of, the ends to which some people will go to win, and the amazing people that come alongside you – those are things I will never forget.

Smart-ass remarks – an uninformed public – a gimme gimme attitude – and those seeking power for the sake of having power.  Those things regrettably are what is making life harder and harder for British Columbians ... and all Canadians.

I saw a saying the other day (wish I could remember where I’d seen it, but basically it said:

Right wing, left wing, we need to remember they come from the same bird”.

There is good in every party ... there is good in most of those running for office who are doing so for the right reasons ... there are people who work on campaigns because they want better for their family, their neighbours, and their friends.

Those are people I appreciate, and value, because they are in it for the right reasons, and I send out my thanks to them. The others ...... no further comment is needed I believe.

Budget 2027: After a Decade of Decline, NDP Budget Delivers an Assault on Seniors, Working Families, and Small Businesses

Peter Milobar, BC Conservative Finance Critic, condemned the NDP government’s latest budget as the result of a decade of decline that has left British Columbians broke, unsafe, and paying more for less.   “After ten years of NDP mismanagement, this budget is an assault on seniors, working families, and the small businesses that drive our economy,” said Milobar. “The NDP have turned their back on the people working hardest to make ends meet and the seniors who built this province.” Milobar pointed to a new $1.1 billion annual income tax increase and warned that the government is piling new costs onto households already struggling with affordability.   “This government keeps asking British Columbians for more, while delivering less,” Milobar said. “The question people are asking is simple: Where has all the money gone?” Milobar noted that BC has gone from a surplus in the first year of NDP government to a projected deficit of more than $13 billion this year, while prov...

WARD STAMER -- Those are REAL forestry numbers, not just made-up numbers

The following is a condensed version of remarks Kamloops – North Thompson MLA Ward Stamer’s made, regarding Forestry, in the BC Legislature, on Tuesday afternoon (02/24/2026)   Let’s talk a little bit, when we talk about Budget 2026, about the forest industry, which is near and dear to my heart. Forestry remains one of British Columbia’s foundational industries. It’s a pillar that built this province. Entire communities depend upon it. Interior towns, northern communities, Vancouver Island regions, the Kootenays, the Lower Mainland, with manufacturing facilities in Surrey and Maple Ridge, just to name a few — everywhere in BC is touched by forestry. One word that was not mentioned in Budget 2026 was forestry. That’s a shame, an incredible shame. It wasn’t an oversight – it was intentional. This government has driven forestry into the ground .... INTO THE GROUND! We can talk a little bit about some of the initiatives that this government has brought forth, to try to resurrect ...

FORSETH -- Before anyone gets excited about one poll showing a candidate with a 25 percent lead, and 44 percent support overall, let’s give it a few more weeks

Is this based in reality -- how accurate are the numbers? In the past couple of weeks a couple of candidates, for the leadership of the BC Conservative Party, have been presenting polling results that they lead the pack – one even going so far as to say they have a lock on 44% of those who will be voting, and a twenty-five percent lead over the individual ranked second. I am going to say that this one, from Kerry-Lynne Findlay, is highly suspect. First of all the company conducting the poll, ERG National Research, is not a Member of Industry Bodies (the Canadian Research Insights Council), meaning they do not adhere to established industry standards for research, such as transparency, privacy, and methodological rigor. AI Overview states that ... based on alerts from the Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC) and reports, ERG National Research should be treated with extreme caution regarding its reliability, and legitimacy, in conducting political polling. Before I even read this in...
