When times are tough and budgets get stretched, it’s not just families that feel the pinch — so do the agencies established to help those families.
A network of BC rent banks that provide interest-free loans to help people cover rent and avoid eviction is petitioning for long-term provincial funding to ensure the program continues to be available as the need for its services hits new heights.
While rent banks get some funding from non-government agencies and municipalities — the Greater Victoria Rent Bank is subsidized by the District of Oak Bay, City of Colwood, City of Victoria and District of Saanich — the bulk of it comes from the province.
And there is no firm commitment to funding beyond the spring of 2026 ...
