Conservative MLA Mandeep Dhaliwal Introduces Parental Transparency and Age-Appropriate Education Act


BC Conservative MLA for Surrey North, Mandeep Dhaliwal, has introduced* groundbreaking legislation to enhance transparency and ensure age-appropriate educational materials in British Columbia’s public schools.

The Parental Transparency and Age-Appropriate Education Act establishes an independent, voluntary review committee responsible for evaluating all classroom materials, including books, films, pamphlets, and digital resources. Materials will receive clear, age-appropriate ratings, giving parents full visibility and confidence about what their children are being taught.

“Parents deserve transparency in education,” said MLA Mandeep Dhaliwal. “This legislation empowers families, ensuring they are informed and involved in their children’s education. Our goal is simple: clarity and accountability.”

Key provisions of the bill include:

  • Establishing an independent committee for transparent review.
  • Mandatory public review of all educational materials used in BC’s public schools. 
  • Clear, age-appropriate labeling of educational resources.


“Under pressure from Conservative MLAs, the Minister of Education promised to do this during the legislature's spring session. Our bill will ensure that the BC NDP government keeps its promise. We are committed to supporting parents and respecting their right to know,” added Dhaliwal. “Transparency is the cornerstone of trust and foundational to quality education.”

The Conservative MLAs are inviting parents and concerned citizens to support this initiative by signing a petition.

Delays to the replacement of the Red Bridge? Kamloops North Thompson MLA Ward Stamer says they are, “Totally Unacceptable.”

I think it’s totally unacceptable that on one hand the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MoTT) is saying they’re going to be responsible for putting together multiple replacement options with public engagement, and then in the same breath they're saying, ‘Oh, and by the way, we're going to start our geotechnical environmental and archaeological site assessments on both sides of the river, possibly beginning this summer.’ According to Stamer, that should already have been done. “Obviously, we're pretty sure it will be in the same location because there's really no other place to put it. So, if you're going to put in a bridge, you think that at least you'd be doing the archaeological assessments first off”, stated Stamer.   “If it's determined it has to be a free-span bridge, and it can't have anything or very minimal impact in the riverbed, they should already be determining that.
