WARD STAMER: Ka-ching ... money for bureaucrats and insiders, not so much for everyday hard working British Columbians.

Everyone, I am sure, has heard the news that some highly paid government bureaucrats were being given out gift cards up to $200.  BC NDP Finance Minister Brenda Bailey said she had no knowledge of it, didn’t realize how big a program it was, or how much was being given out. 

She went on to say that in these times of austerity they shouldn’t be giving out gift cards to public workers, and that she was going to suspend the program immediately.

What did she do instead? 

Well, bureaucrats are still going to be bonused with gift cards, it’s just that now they won’t exceed $100.

That's outrageous. I think they said it was six million dollars. Now they're trying to come back and say it was only $15,000, or some ridiculous amount.

Regardless ... it's a significant amount of taxpayer dollars considering what happened to the grocery rebate which they promised in the last election, and then didn’t follow through on.

Now they've added additional taxes to seniors and working families, they're taking money away from kids, and yet they still want to be able to hand out $100 gift cards to public workers.

It's totally disgraceful.

FORSETH – My question is, ‘How do we decide who is blue enough to be called a Conservative?’

How do we decide who’s blue enough to be a Conservative? AS OF TODAY (Friday January 30 th ), there are now eight individuals who have put their names forward to lead the Conservative Party of British Columbia. Having been involved with BC’s Conservatives since 2010, and having seen MANY ups and downs, having 8 people say “I want to lead the party” is to me, an incredible turn-around from the past. FORSETH -- Before anyone gets excited about one poll showing a candidate with a 25 percent lead, and 44 percent support overall, let’s give it a few more weeks

Is this based in reality -- how accurate are the numbers? In the past couple of weeks a couple of candidates, for the leadership of the BC Conservative Party, have been presenting polling results that they lead the pack – one even going so far as to say they have a lock on 44% of those who will be voting, and a twenty-five percent lead over the individual ranked second. I am going to say that this one, from Kerry-Lynne Findlay, is highly suspect. First of all the company conducting the poll, ERG National Research, is not a Member of Industry Bodies (the Canadian Research Insights Council), meaning they do not adhere to established industry standards for research, such as transparency, privacy, and methodological rigor.
