“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

My opinion is just that, mine … and I have every right to express it, just as you do yours

Peace brother ... and out

The other day I was described in the following way, by an individual who didn’t agree with a position I had taken, with regards to the free-wheeling illegally operating pot stores in the City of Kamloops:

Garrett Gilmour: We get it, Alan, you're 89 years old, your great great great grand-pappy settled these here lands back in eighteen odd six, and you drive in one lane traffic at 35 kilometers during rush hour and think its your god given right to do so. Trust me. We get it.

Well I certainly believe that people should have the right to their opinions, and be able to share and exchange them, I would hope they would have balance and at least be somewhat accurate.

So, for your information, this is the 'accurate' readers digest condensed version of me; who I am, and who I've been.

The old mare I first learned to ride
after arriving in the Cariboo in 1965
I have been politically active since my teens ... I have been a union member and shop steward ... I have been a retail clerk … I’ve been employed in all facets of the broadcast industry … I’ve been a mine worker … and I worked at Fields back when it was a full-fledged department store, even selling furniture and appliances as a 16 and 17-year-old.

In my teens I shoveled snow and mowed lawns to earn my own money to buy records, and eat at the Dog N Suds … and I even used our family horse in the Cariboo to deliver the Vancouver Sun in our neighbourhood -- just once though as hoof prints in the lawns were a problem  :D

I’ve been an employee, and I’ve been management.

I have over the years supported the NDP, Liberals, Reform Party and Conservatives.

I love classic country and new-country ... and I love classic rock ... along with big bands, and the classics like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and company.

I even smoked it back in the day, and … I inhaled.

I’ve had cats of all kinds, and dogs too from Golden Retriever, to mutts, to now a very small dog called a MiKi, that weighs under 4 pounds.

Me ... with hair
I’ve had long hair down past my shoulders … short hair over my ears … and for awhile no hair at all, in support of my wife who was undergoing cancer treatment.

I’ve raised a boy and a girl (one by birth and one adopted) … and for well over a decade also brought up and raised a grand-child through pre-school to graduation.

All that is just to say I am not you … just as you are not me.

And let me say … I am definitely glad I am not Cody Schlecht, and he is not me, as he had some pretty mean-spirited ... or should I say disgusting, words to say too, as the following will attest:
You know Alan having an opinion is a lot like having a dick. It’s cool to have one, it’s okay to be proud of it, but it doesn’t mean you should shove it in people’s faces.

Me ... without hair
My opinion is just that, mine, and I have every right to express it, just as any of you who are reading this will be able to comment on what I've had to say today.

You may not like my opinion, in fact you may be adamantly opposed, just as others (myself included) may be of yours.

It's not wrong … and it’s not right … it's just life.  But hey, let's skip the disgusting crap ... the mean-spirited crap ... and the guesswork throwing everything and anything crap.

In Kamloops, I’m Alan Forseth, and I hope you’ll join the discussion on this, or any other topic presented here.  Do you agree … disagree?  Post your thoughts in the Comment Section directly below.

  1. Alan, keep in mind, those over sensitive brick-tossers are reacting to the self-inflicted pain of reading your opinions. Shouldn’t you provide them a safe space?

FORSETH -- Given the noted infractions of this agreement with OneBC leader Dallas Brodie, I request the Party immediate suspend the leadership campaign of Yuri Fulmer

I have personally emailed the following to the Board and Administration of the Conservative Party of BC:   TODAY (03/30) Yuri Fulmer, a candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of BC, made a pact with ONEBC leader Dallas Broldie, that if he is elected will commit the Conservative Party to the following. Specifically, the pact states : This Memorandum of Understanding outlines the definitive electoral and governing alliance that will be executed upon Yuri Fulmer’s election as Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia OneBC Party commits to not nominating or authorizing candidates in 88 of British Columbia’s 93 electoral districts. In exchange, the Conservative Party of BC, under the leadership of Yuri Fulmer, commits to not nominating or authorizing candidates in five (5) specific electoral districts . OneBC will be the sole standard-bearer for the right in those five districts. The specific ridings will be determined through mutual negotiation and fin...

Delays to the replacement of the Red Bridge? Kamloops North Thompson MLA Ward Stamer says they are, “Totally Unacceptable.”

I think it’s totally unacceptable that on one hand the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MoTT) is saying they’re going to be responsible for putting together multiple replacement options with public engagement, and then in the same breath they're saying, ‘Oh, and by the way, we're going to start our geotechnical environmental and archaeological site assessments on both sides of the river, possibly beginning this summer.’ According to Stamer, that should already have been done. “Obviously, we're pretty sure it will be in the same location because there's really no other place to put it. So, if you're going to put in a bridge, you think that at least you'd be doing the archaeological assessments first off”, stated Stamer.   “If it's determined it has to be a free-span bridge, and it can't have anything or very minimal impact in the riverbed, they should already be determining that. It would help in the design, wouldn't it?” Stamer indicated...

Your government has a gambling problem (Troy Media)

Provinces call it “revenue,” but it looks a lot like exploitation of the marginalized The odds of winning Lotto Max are about 1 in 33 million. You’re statistically more likely to be struck by lightning than to win it. But your government is betting that statistics won’t hold you back; they’re counting on it. Across Canada, provincial governments not only regulate gambling, they also maintain a monopoly on lottery and gaming by owning and operating the entire legal market. That means every scratch card is government-issued, gambling odds are government-set, casino ads are government-funded and lottery billboards are government-paid. And these are not incidental government activities. They generate significant revenues that governments have powerful incentives to expand, not constrain. It would be one thing for our governments to encourage us to engage in healthy activities. We can quibble about whether the government should be trying to convince us to be more active or eat more vegetabl...
