“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

“This new Provincial Forest Advisory Council has been appointed for one reason only,” said Stamer, “to keep the Green Party happy, so they will prop up David Eby’s government a little while longer.”

This week’s announcement by the Eby NDP government of another advisory committee is more bad news for a forest industry in crisis, according to Ward Stamer, Conservative Official Opposition Forests Critic.

“This new committee has been appointed for one reason only,” said Stamer, “to keep the Green Party happy, so they will prop up David Eby’s government a little while longer.”

Stamer noted that the creation of the committee was one of the conditions that the Greens demanded in exchange for supporting Eby.

“The Greens talk a good game about sustainability and stewardship,” said Stamer. “This is a group of lawyers and city folks who only ever step foot in a forest to go hiking or bird-watching. Their only goal is to turn the entire province into one big provincial park.”

“We’ve lost tens of thousands of jobs in the forest industry. Most of the people on this committee played some kind of role in shutting down mills, removing fibre from the timber supply, and throwing loggers and mill workers on the unemployment line.”

“The NDP continue to rely for advice on the people who have got us into this mess in the first place: most of them have no skin in the game, no real idea how the forest industry actually works,” said Stamer. It’s not just the threat of U.S. tariffs that has pushed our forest industry in survival mode. It’s mismanagement and lack of leadership.”

“On softwood duties, for example, they’ve bungled the file from day one. Their flawed old growth management system that doesn’t address forest health. It has played a role in raising the wildfire risk, especially in residential areas near some of their so-called protected areas.”

“Their stumpage fees and costs are the highest in North America. They constantly change permitting regulations.”

“If David Eby truly cared about the forest sector, he would put a representative from the Council of Forest Industries on this committee,” said Stamer. “And he would include Conservative MLA’s and Green MLA’s. He would listen to people who go to work every day in the forests.”

Your government has a gambling problem (Troy Media)

Provinces call it “revenue,” but it looks a lot like exploitation of the marginalized The odds of winning Lotto Max are about 1 in 33 million. You’re statistically more likely to be struck by lightning than to win it. But your government is betting that statistics won’t hold you back; they’re counting on it. Across Canada, provincial governments not only regulate gambling, they also maintain a monopoly on lottery and gaming by owning and operating the entire legal market. That means every scratch card is government-issued, gambling odds are government-set, casino ads are government-funded and lottery billboards are government-paid. And these are not incidental government activities. They generate significant revenues that governments have powerful incentives to expand, not constrain. It would be one thing for our governments to encourage us to engage in healthy activities. We can quibble about whether the government should be trying to convince us to be more active or eat more vegetabl...

EBY OFFSIDE WITH NATIONAL INTEREST AS CARNEY AND SMITH BUILD BC'S ECONOMIC FUTURE WITHOUT HIM ~~ BC Conservatives

IMAGE CREDIT :  CBC News   Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced a landmark agreement today committing Ottawa to designate a new pipeline to BC's west coast as a project of national interest by October 1, 2026, with construction approval targeted for September 1, 2027. The deal pairs the pipeline with a new industrial carbon pricing framework and a fall 2027 construction start. British Columbia, the province where the pipeline ends, where the jobs would land, and where the export terminal would be built, was nowhere at the table. "This is a nation-building deal, and the BC NDP have been locked out of the room," said Trevor Halford, Interim Leader of the Official Opposition.  "While the Prime Minister and the Premier of Alberta were doing the hard work of growing the Canadian economy, the NDP is on the sidelines calling this pipeline a 'fiction' and an 'energy vampire.'  He chose petulance over partnership, and now BC ...

Seniors Waiting Years for Care: New Data Exposes Growing Long-Term Care Crisis in BC

Image Credit: Seniors Advocate BC     “ Eight years. That is not a wait time. That is a system failur e” Seniors in British Columbia are now waiting years, not months, for access to long-term care, according to figures confirmed during Health Estimates this week. Brennan Day, MLA for Courtenay-Comox and Critic for Rural Health and Seniors’ Health, says the numbers paint a clear picture of a system falling behind the needs of a rapidly aging population. “Yesterday, after repeated questioning, the Minister finally confirmed that 7,829 seniors are currently waiting for long-term care in British Columbia,” said Day. “That’s an 11 percent increase in just one year.” The delays are not measured in weeks, they are measured in years. Across the province, average wait times now exceed a year in many regions. In Vancouver Coastal Health, the maximum wait time has reached 2,825 days, nearly eight years. “Eight years,” said Day. “That is not a wait time. That is a system failure.” At...
