“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

Yuri Fulmer enters BC Conservative Leadership race, to put BC back on track

Business leader, philanthropist, and university chancellor Yuri Fulmer announced he is seeking the Leadership of the Conservative Party of BC to get British Columbia back on track and restore opportunity, affordability, and hope after nine years of too many people falling behind.

I’m running to be the next Premier of British Columbia because our province deserves real leadership and a chance to be the envy of Canada once again,” said Fulmer.

David Eby and the NDP cannot be allowed to continue to mismanage the economy with a spiraling deficit while the cost of living skyrockets, criminals go unpunished, the healthcare system crumbles, and tens of thousands of people flee the province.”

I worked my way up from clearing tables and running the drive-thru at A&W to owning dozens of restaurants across Western Canada. Sadly, that success story is no longer possible in a BC where half the population is only $200 away from financial crisis each month. My children’s generation isn’t growing up with the same opportunities for success as my generation—and that’s unacceptable. I believe every British Columbian deserves real opportunity and the confidence that the future can be better than today,” added Fulmer.

Throughout his career, Fulmer has built and led organizations that strengthen communities, create opportunities and jobs, and make people’s lives better.

He is currently the Global Chair of United Way Worldwide, Chancellor of Capilano University, and Chairman & CEO of Fulmer & Company which invests in small and medium-sized businesses that share a passion for innovation and excellence. He received the Order of British Columbia in 2011 and was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025. In 2019, he established the Fulmer Foundation to support community-focused initiatives. Fulmer served as the Board Chair of BC Ferries from 2016 to 2019.

Given the bleak outlook for the future of our province under the NDP, it is critical that the Conservative Party of BC has a leader with the skills and experience necessary to get this province heading in the right direction again,” said Fulmer.

Real leadership is about restoring hope, creating opportunity, and reminding people that British Columbia’s best days are in front of us. I’ve spent decades building organizations and consensus, creating jobs and prosperity, and delivering real results and positive change. My background and experience equips me best to serve, not only as an effective Opposition Leader who can defeat the NDP, but also as the next Premier of BC who knows how to tackle the biggest issues facing British Columbians and get our incredible province back on track.”

Fulmer introduced himself as a prospective leadership candidate with an online video on New Year’s Day and his campaign launched a website earlier this week to accept pledges of support, register new memberships, and collect donations.

If you believe our province can once again be a place where people thrive, communities feel safe, and hard work leads to opportunity, then join our growing movement to build the strongest Conservative Party of BC to restore hope, create opportunity, and ensure everyone can dream and succeed right here in British Columbia,” concluded Fulmer.

BC’s Forestry Decline Is a Policy Failure, Not a Market Reality -- Forestry Critic Calls for Accountability and Urgent Policy Reset

Conservative Party of BC Forestry Critic, and Kamloops - North Thompson MLA,  Ward Stamer As the Truck Loggers Association convention begins today, BC Conservative Forestry Critic Ward Stamer says British Columbia’s forestry crisis is the result of government mismanagement, not market forces, and that an urgent policy reset is needed to restore certainty, sustainability, and accountability. “For generations, forestry supported families and communities across BC,” said Stamer.  “Today, mills are closing, contractors are parking equipment, and families are being forced to leave home, not because the resource is gone, but because policy has failed.” Government data shows timber shipment values dropped by more than half a billion dollars in the past year, with harvest levels falling by roughly 50 per cent in just four years. At the same time, prolonged permitting timelines, unreliable fibre access, outdated forest inventories, and rising costs have made long-term planning impossib...

BC cannot regulate, redesign, and reinterpret its way to a stable forestry sector. Communities need clear rules, predictable timelines, and accountability for results.

Photo credit:  Atli Resources LP   BC’s Forestry Crisis Continues with Closure of Beaver Cove Chip Facility   As industry leaders, Indigenous partners, and contractors gather this week at the BC Natural Resources Forum in Prince George, the gap between government rhetoric and reality could not be clearer. Just hours after the Eby government once again touted reconciliation, certainty, and economic opportunity under DRIPA, Atli Chip Ltd, a company wholly owned by the ’Na̱mg̱is First Nation, announced it is managing the orderly closure of its Beaver Cove chip facility. The closure comes despite public tax dollars, repeated government announcements, and assurances that new policy frameworks would stabilize forestry employment and create long-term opportunity in rural and coastal British Columbia. “British Columbians are being told one story, while communities are living another,” said Ward Stamer, Critic for Forests. “This closure makes it clear that announcement...

Eby government signs another land-use agreement, as they say one thing and do another, during DRIPA chaos

While promising to fix DRIPA, the Eby government continues to quietly sign binding land-use agreements that fundamentally alter how Crown land is governed in British Columbia. On January 15, 2026, the government signed four ministerial orders advancing the Gwa’ni Land Use Planning Project with the ’Na̱mg̱is First Nation, amending the Vancouver Island Land Use Plan and changing how more than 166,000 hectares of Crown land can be accessed, developed, and managed. “This is Land Act reform by stealth,” said Critic for Indigenous Relations Scott McInnis. “British Columbians already rejected these changes once. In 2024, public backlash forced the NDP to pull its Land Act amendments. Instead of listening, this government has gone underground, signing individual deals behind closed doors, just like we’ve already seen in places such as Squamish, Teẑtan Biny, and across Northwest BC.” “The Premier admits DRIPA ( the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act) is creating ...
