MP Cathy McLEOD -- Canadians deserve to have access to the status and terms and conditions of loans awarded with taxpayer dollars
Conservative MP McLeod Introduces Private Members’ Bill
Yesterday (April 13th, 2021) Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament for Kamloops – Thompson – Cariboo introduced her Private Members’ Bill, An Act to Amend the Department of Industry Act (financial assistance).
The purpose of this Bill is to require the Minister of Industry to annually publish the details of all grants, loans, or contributions made by the Department of Industry that total over $100,000.
“I am honoured to introduce my Private Members’ Bill, An Act to Amend the Department of Industry Act (financial assistance), today in the House of Commons,” said McLeod.
“The support of Canadian industry is of the utmost importance, and the Government has a role to play in supporting critical industries such as the airline sector during this pandemic. At the same time, Canadians deserve to have access to the status and terms and conditions of loans awarded with taxpayer dollars.
This Bill will provide an opportunity for yet another layer of transparency and accountability. By publishing the details of grants, loans, and contributions over $100,000, the Department of Industry will face a greater level of scrutiny that ensures their spending is effective and ethical.” stated McLeod.
“Conservatives have long sought-after accountability and transparency from this Government, who have an imperfect record of ethical spending. This Bill ensures accountability for a scandal ridden Government and will provide consumer confidence in Government spending.” concluded McLeod.
