One year after a horrific report describing how an 11-year-old boy in government care was tortured and isolated before he died, some progress has been made. But not enough, says BC’s representative for children and youth.
Jennifer Charlesworth’s July 2024 report “Don’t Look Away” found the boy’s death could have been prevented.
Charlesworth said she had hoped to assure his family and community that the report had led to needed changes in the last year.
“I want to be able to tell them that we have learned and that things are better for children and families in BC, but I need to see more change on the ground before I am able to do that” ...
