“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

MENNO FROESE -- Can’t vote for Peter MacKay! My Reasons

Peter MacKay is not a leader ...
An individual who spent 20 years in the House of Commons, during which he was entrusted with three cabinet portfolios should be known for at least one initiative he can point to, a project of national significance he created, or a true legacy he left behind. No such legacy exists with Peter Mackay, nothing to show true, humble direction in management or governance. Just not a leader...

Peter MacKay won’t keep our party conservative ...
With Peter MacKay as leader and the unapologetic comments he recently directed to certain Party members does not contribute to creating a unified national party ... momentum we need to win an election. Some go so far as to say that with Mackay as leader, it will ensure a split and creation of a third national Conservative party ... another Reform or Canadian Alliance.

While such action would relegate us to opposition for many years, it’s well known that voters will only support a leader where they feel comfortable, a party where they feel welcomed, and which is not Liberal-lite. Hopefully we won’t choose to go through that cycle again? With Peter Mackay as leader, to be honest with voters some say we would even have to change the Party’s name.

Peter MacKay is not loyal ...
Peter Mackay is not loyal to the Party or to our leader ... raising money for a leadership run even before the last election, his statements of “stinking albatross” and “empty net”, even before Mr Scheer decided to step down, is nothing but disloyal, and totally disrespectful to the entire party membership who had rallied around the Party Leader. Peter MacKay also needs to address the story that he has demanded a personal salary from his leadership campaign for this duration.

Peter MacKay is not a team player ...
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said that the two MPs who caused the most grief during his tenure as Prime Minister were Steven Fletcher and Peter MacKay! Now we are asked to support him for leader? He’s not a team player.

A recent article in Macleans magazine referred to the constant challenges that both the PMO and Party Headquarters had with Peter Mackay in trying to create a cooperative relationship so necessary for successful campaigns. I witnessed this personally.

Question: Why are so few of Peter MacKay’s former cabinet colleagues supporting his bid for leadership of our party? Why have more than two thirds of the Conservative caucus refused or declined to endorse Peter Mackay? They’ve all had tremendous pressure to do so ... it shows that Peter Mackay is not a team player.

Peter MacKay now calls himself the “co-founder” of the Conservative Party ... but speak to those who were involved in discussions and negotiations at the time, those who served on the interim National Council, and those who attended the meetings. Peter Mackay would postpone meetings, then not show up, delay, delay but finally came around “kicking and screaming” when a revolt of PC constituency presidents from across Canada was brewing! All initiatives, as anyone will recall, came from one side ... but now he dares to call himself ‘Co-founder’ ... a bit of a stretch, no?

I could continue, as there are more reasons.

Yes, this is just one man’s opinion ... but based on observation, experience and research. Canada deserves better. Canada’s Conservatives can do much better.

Menno Froese ... is a former Western Vice President of the Conservative Party of Canada. He represented British Columbia on the National Council from 2006-2013, and was Chair of the National Policy Committee for two biennial conventions. A party volunteer since 1993, he resides in Abbotsford, BC.

  1. I seem to recall a much worse Minister in the one responsible for the RCMP under Harper. He presided over multiple RCMP scandals, including the High River gun grab, and he did not have the Commissioner sacked. This was a disgrace to a Conservative government by Blainie and Harper, not done by Peter MacKay.

The NDP is destroying BC's softwood industry as 100 Mile House mill shuts down and jobs vanish

No more than a few days after the province hosted its much-touted summit to discuss the continuing impact of U.S. softwood tariffs, and with Statistics Canada reporting another decline in BC’s softwood production, the axe has fallen on West Fraser Timber’s 100 Mile House mill. Lorne Doerkson, MLA for Cariboo–Chilcotin , says the devastation now hitting the South Cariboo is what happens when government ignores every warning sign coming from the forest sector. “One hundred and sixty-five people in 100 Mile House just lost their jobs,” said Doerkson. “That’s 165 families wondering how they’ll pay their bills and whether they can stay in their own community. The ripple effect will hit every business on main street, from the gas stations and restaurants to the grocery stores.” “The Minister’s thoughts and prayers aren’t enough for those families facing unimaginable hardship. It’s time this minister did his job and not another photo op,” said Doerkson. “The Minister thinks the ...

Premier’s Office Acknowledges Richmond Residents Affected by Cowichan Land Claim Face Issues on “Mortgages, Property Sales”

“The Premier’s Office is secretly sending letters to my constituents behind my back. If the NDP were truly committed to transparency and supporting residents, they would have proactively engaged with owners years ago, not rushed out last-minute letters to cover their tracks.” ~~ Steve Kooner, Conservative MLA for Richmond-Queensborough and Opposition Critic for Attorney General Steve Kooner, Conservative MLA for Richmond-Queensborough and Opposition Critic for Attorney General, is criticising Premier David Eby and the NDP provincial government for secretly delivering non-committal, last-minute letters to Richmond residents affected by the Cowichan Tribes land claim. For over six years the NDP misled British Columbians on the implications of indigenous land claims. Premier Eby is now quietly sending staff to conduct damage control following public fallout from his 2019 strategic directive for government lawyers not to argue extinguishment of aboriginal title, even over p...

Kamloops woman’s cancer test cancelled due to Interior Health mandates for OB/GYNs (iNFO News)

A Kamloops woman’s cancer screening appointment was considered urgent by her doctors and scheduled within weeks, but it was postponed indefinitely when Interior Health ordered her gynecologist take that day’s on-call shift. Troylana Manson now waits with the mystery of whether she might have cancer amid a staffing crisis for women’s health care specialists in Kamloops. “I was happy to have that appointment in December so we could rule this out, but now it’s thrown in the air again. People in Kamloops, certainly people in positions of power, need to realize what Interior Health is doing”  ... CLICK HERE for the full story
