BC critical minerals plan at odds with parks plan, claims industry group (Business in Vancouver)

Federal and provincial ambitions to promote critical mineral exploration and mining may be at odds with their parks and conservation ambitions, warns the Association of Mineral Exploration (AME).

BC's parks and conservation plan, which is meant to harmonize with the federal government's 30 by 30 strategy, aims to have 30 per cent of BC's land and waters protected in some form by the year 2030.

The BC government has been criticized by conservation groups for doing too little to meet that target, especially with respect to old-growth protection. Now it's coming under fire from the AME for doing too much ...

2025 was a busy first year. As a Caucus, we worked very hard to defeat Bills 14 and 15, legislation which allows the provincial government to move ahead without environmental assessments on renewable projects, and that also allows cabinet to build infrastructure projects without getting approval from local municipal governments. This is not acceptable to your BC Conservative caucus, and we will continue to press this government for open and transparent projects in the future.  Two things we had success in were having the first Private Members bill passed in over 40 years. The first was Jody Toors Prenatal and Post Natal Care bill, and then there was my private members Bill M217 Mandatory Dashcams in commercial vehicles (passed second reading unanimously and is heading to Committee in February).
