“I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” ~~ John G. Diefenbaker

A message from BC Conservative MLA Ward Stamer, and the Kamloops – North Thompson Riding Association

2025 was a busy first year. As a Caucus, we worked very hard to defeat Bills 14 and 15, legislation which allows the provincial government to move ahead without environmental assessments on renewable projects, and that also allows cabinet to build infrastructure projects without getting approval from local municipal governments.

This is not acceptable to your BC Conservative caucus, and we will continue to press this government for open and transparent projects in the future.

Two things we had success in were having the first Private Members bill passed in over 40 years. The first was Jody Toors Prenatal and Post Natal Care bill, and then there was my private members Bill M217 Mandatory Dashcams in commercial vehicles (passed second reading unanimously and is heading to Committee in February).

Regrettably, much of the legislation passed by the government was little more than housekeeping bills, or opportunities to strengthen the ability of Cabinet Ministers to bypass the BC legislature, and run everything out of the Premiers office.

This is not how the government is designed to run!

We as a province have significant challenges with declining access to healthcare and doctors, affordability and cost of living issues, along with crime and rampant drug use on our streets. Another major concern is shrinking revenues in our natural resource sector, which has translated (especially in the forest sector) to layoffs and uncertainty.

The good news is we live in the most amazing place in the world, and we can and should be able to do much better.

In the new year just ahead, I, along with my caucus colleagues, will continue to fight for what is right. That includes:

  • Ensuring the new cancer clinic in Kamloops is built properly with a dedicated PET-CT scanner and chemotherapy/pharmacy department; not what is proposed by the NDP government. People receiving cancer care, in BC’s interior, deserve the same level of service as those in Nanaimo, Surrey, and Burnaby are getting.

  • Continuing to hold the NDP government accountable for the OB/GYN crisis in Kamloops, and elsewhere, and hold Interior Health responsible for any drop in the services they provide.

  • Continuing to advocate for more responsive care to the homeless, and those who are suffering from drug dependency.

  • And we will continue holding this governments feet to the fire for allowing record deficits, and debt, to spiral out of control, and for introducing policies and legislation that has resulted in declining revenues to the provincial treasury.

Let me just say, my job as a member of the Official Opposition isn’t just to criticize.  More importantly it is to listen and then offer government tangible solutions that will improve the lives of the people I represent here in our riding of Kamloops – North Thompson.  While most of these solutions fall on deaf ears, this is something I will continue to do.

As I am sure many of you know, our former party leader, John Rustad, stepped down last month. As a party, as MLAs, and those who support BC’s conservative movement, we owe a huge debt of gratitude for John’s work in leading us to become the official opposition. Now, next steps begin.

A leadership campaign will get underway in the coming weeks, which will be an opportunity for all members to get excited about what we can accomplish together. Already individuals are letting it be known they are considering letting their names stand, and I look forward to hearing their plans for how we can re-energize the people of BC, and build a better province for all
.

I am extremely grateful for all the letters and phone calls I have received during the year – and for the people who have supported not only myself, but our entire caucus.  Rest assured we will continue to work hard for everyone in BC.

I hope you had a wonderful Merry Christmas, and now, here’s to a much brighter, healthier and prosperous New Year
.

Sincerely,

Ward Stamer, MLA
Conservative Party of BC
Kamloops – North Thompson

P.S.  While the Premier has stated he doesn’t want another election, he has also been saying that the BC NDP have a fully funded war chest, and they’re ready to go. With that in mind, and only if you are able, please consider making a donation (https://conservativebc.ca/mla/ward-stamer/#donate) which will be used to help us in our goal of ensuring our riding of Kamloops – North Thompson is part of a Conservative government that will be elected whenever the next election is called.

A message from the BC Conservative Kamloops – North Thompson Riding Association

As we end the year 2025, your Kamloops – North Thompson Riding Association would like to take a moment to wish you and your family all the best in the new year ahead, and we hope your Christmas festivities have added to the special memories you have created over the years.

We thank you for your support of our BC Conservative movement, and we look forward to building a bigger and stronger team that will allow us to become the provinces government when we next go to the polls.

To that end, please keep these things in mind:

RENEW OR BECOME A MEMBER:
We are reaching out not just to members, but also those who supported our MLA, Ward Stamer, in the 2024 election. Help us in building a strong and active Riding Association, by taking a moment to become or renew your membership.

VOLUNTEER:

The success of a political campaign depends on the active collaboration, and teamwork, of many people. A team allows each of us to put our time, skills, ideas, knowledge, and gifts together to build an effective organization. While the next election is not scheduled until 2028, Premier Eby continues to suggest an election could be held any time. If you can help out, no matter how much time you have available, please let us know by CLICKING HERE.

AND FINALLY, can you make a donation?

If you are like me, the past several weeks have been filled with requests to donate to all kinds of causes, and many of you have. British Columbians, as a whole, are generous and so I hope you will think of this as one vitally important to the very well-being of our province, and which will ensure Ward has the financial support that will be needed come the next election.

Whatever you are able to contribute, it will be gratefully received, so please be sure to do that no later than midnight December 31st, so you can receive your tax receipt of 2025.  To make your donation directly to our Kamloops – North Thompson Riding Association, click this link.

Again, please know that we very much appreciate your support of the BC Conservative Party, and MLA Ward Stamer. And with your continued support and encouragement, we’ll make 2026 even bigger and better.

All the best,

Alan Forseth, President

“4.5 million hectares of forest lands have burned since 2023, and the best they can do is point to a 90-hectare block being salvaged?” ~~ Ward Stamer, Kamloops-North Thompson MLA

Today, BC NDP forest Minister Ravi Parmar made this pronouncement; ‘Removing red tape has sped up permitting, allowing for more wood to be salvaged, quicker’. 4.5 million hectares of forest lands have burned since 2023, and the best they can do is point to a 90-hectare block?    ~~ BC Conservative Forests Critic Ward Stamer While acknowledging the NDP government has recognized improvements were needed in permitting and accessing burnt fibre in a timely fashion, the reality is, they are barely making a dent in the problem.  This government's recognition that only seven percent of pulp mill fibre came from burnt timber in 2024-25, quite simply put, is a failure. And the recent announcement, just three weeks ago, that the Crofton Pulp Mill would be permanently closing, is proof of that.     Instead of Premier David Eby’s government addressing core issues being faced by British Columbia’s forest industry, they are doing little more than manipulating the facts, ...

“The Squamish Nation is doing what the NDP government won’t: Confronting drug trafficking, enforcing public safety, and offering pathways to recovery." ~~ Conservative MLA Claire Rattée

Conservative Critic for Mental Health and Addictions Claire Rattée Responds to Squamish Nation State of Emergency on Drug Crisis  Conservative Critic for Mental Health and Addictions Claire Rattee, issued the following statement responding to the Squamish Nation’s declaration of a State of Emergency on the drug crisis that is devastating Indigenous communities: “Under the NDP government, Indigenous life expectancy has fallen by over seven years since 2017, largely due to the out-of-control drug crisis. Meanwhile, First Nations Health Authority data shows that Indigenous people represented 17.7% of toxic drug deaths in the first half of 2023, despite being just over 3% of population. “Tragically, Indigenous British Columbians are dying from the drug crisis at rates far higher than the rest of the population. When a Nation is forced to take emergency action to address drug trafficking, community safety, and collapsing life expectancy, it is a damning indictment of this government’s r...
