CATHY McLEOD -- Celebrate people in our riding who are doing an exceptional job in helping others amidst the pandemic



WORKING TOGETHER ... we Canadians are a proud and patriotic people, and love to fly the colours of our nation with a Canadian flag. 

 

To commemorate Canada Day every year, I give away Canadian flags to constituents who have entered their names in our draw. The flags are a very in-demand item and people are always thrilled to receive them. 

 

This year, I would like to change the entry process up a little by asking people to nominate someone who has done an exceptional job in helping others during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

FLYING PROUD ... this year’s Canada Day flag draw winners will also receive a volunteer service medal along with a large, high-quality Canadian flag

 

Those whose names are drawn will receive a volunteer service medal along with their flag.

Connecting Canadians online to mental wellness 

 

These are challenging times on so many levels, with much of our normal routines and daily activities temporarily on hold. 

 

In an effort to help navigate it all, the federal government has launched Wellness Together Canada, an online resource offering free mental health and wellness supports. 

 

There are self-guided “e-courses” on taking control of stress and mood; group chatrooms; tools for youth; addictions support; and one-on-one counselling available by text, video or phone


We are all in this together! If you or someone you know is needing a little extra support right now, this is a resource worth checking out.

Cathy McLeod (Kamloops – Thompson – Cariboo) was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 2008. She was appointed Conservative Shadow Minister for Natural Resources (Forestry and Mining) on November 29, 2019, and was the Shadow Minister for Indigenous and Northern Affairs from 2017-2019.

 

Previously, Cathy served as Parliamentary Secretary to several Cabinet Ministers, including the Minister of Health, Minister of Labour and Western Economic Diversification, and Minister of National Revenue.

NDP Sits on $61 Million With No Start Date for Burnaby Hospital

Phase 2 of Burnaby Hospital redevelopment  was green lit to go ahead in September 2023 The NDP spent $45 million on the Burnaby Hospital redevelopment, cancelled the second phase, and now has another $61 million listed for the project in the province’s Public Accounts, with no start date for construction. If the NDP cancelled the project, what is happening to the $61 million set aside for it? The Phase 2 project was expected to cost between $1.7 billion and $1.8 billion and was intended to expand the hospital’s capacity. BC Conservatives Point to Warning Signs in BC’s Economy

While Canada posted modest job gains in July, warning lights are still flashing in British Columbia. Youth unemployment remains stubbornly high, leaving too many first-time jobseekers shut out of the workforce. BC also lost 3,400 public administration jobs in July, likely as temporary Census positions ended. “BC's jobs divide remains stark.
