'I lacked respect' PM Trudeau apologizes for response to protester

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has apologized for a “lack of respect” he showed towards a protester who confronted him about mercury contamination in a First Nation community during a Liberal fundraiser in Toronto ... Trudeau said he always tries to be respectful and to engage with protesters in a “positive” way but admitted he didn’t do that the night before.

“Last night I lacked respect towards them, and I apologize for that,” he said.

On Wednesday night, hecklers at a fundraiser, organized by the Laurier Club that requires a minimum contribution of $1,500 to join, called out Trudeau’s handling of mercury poisoning on the Grassy Narrows First Nation, he thanked them for contributing to his party’s coffers.


“Thank you very much for your donation tonight, I really appreciate the donation to the Liberal Party of Canada,” Trudeau said to cheers from the crowd.

There are things, like displaying contempt, that are beyond repair by apology.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not sorry about the slip in his façade. For once, he told the unvarnished truth ... he lacks respect.

Serving Canadians does not float his boat. He craves a place on the world stage where the mundane matters of prudent governance of a peaceful nation do not intrude on his plans.

We should help by relieving him of the governance burden he now endures.

One arrested at OneBC event at UVic that draws protesters (Times Colonist)

A would-be speaker was arrested under the Trespass Act after she arrived at the University of Victoria on Tuesday for an event intended to shed light on what the OneBC political party refers to as the “reconciliation industry.”  An officer at the scene initially said two people were arrested, after protesters scuffled with those trying to hold the unsanctioned event.
